10 Fall Front Door Decor Ideas

If you’re planning out your fall decor, don’t forget to add your front door to the list. Many people forget to add decorations to their front doors, but this year, you won’t! Check out these ideas for fall front door decor.

You may scroll through Pinterest and see adorable front doors decorated with plants, welcome mats, pumpkins, and wreaths. You pin images for later in hopes of using the ideas for fall. But, if you are like me, then you have hundreds of saved pins, and only a few have been attempted.

Your front door is the one place in your home that gets the most traffic. You and your family go in and out of it every day, and during the holidays, you have family and friends coming over as well. So, why not decorate this area to the nines?

This year, we are turning it around and decorating our front door space to perfection!

A front door is a key element to the look of your home. When you pass by a house, one of the main things you notice is the doorway – the color, decor, detail, etc. So, this year, when the fall season starts creeping up, take the opportunity to decorate a front door that catches their eyes and makes them say, “I love what you did with your space.”

10 Ways to Decorate Your Front Door for Fall

1. Hang a Wreath

Get creative with this one by choosing to DIY one yourself or purchase one from a local craft store. The type of wreath you use depends on the theme of your fall decor. No matter what style you’re going for, there are lots of great ideas and inspiration for using wreaths in your decor. 

  • Create your own adorable rustic wreath to hang on your door. This DIY is very easy and can be styled to your liking.
  • If fall is nearing, then we know Christmas is just around the corner! Use this Christmas wreath for your front door this year. It looks and smells like Christmas! 

2. Add Greenery or Ivy 

Use fresh or fake ivy to wrap around your door frame and give it a woodsy fall look. Use greenery that hangs up or can be placed along with the door frame as well. This decor creates a woodsy feel that is perfectly paired with plants and pumpkins all around.

3. Use Fall Ceramics

Use seasonal ceramics you find at your local stores. Depending on your theme, you could use pumpkins, trees, and acorns in vases to fill the space to your entryway. Place them on your steps, front porch, or on either side of the doorway. 

4. Set Out Potted Plants

Grab some fall-friendly flower pots and place them next to your front door. Use seasonal flowers to plant inside the pots. A few seasonal plant ideas perfect for your doorway would be daisies, mums, helenium, sunflowers, and marigolds.

5. Mount Candle Holders 

If you don’t have a decorative light for your front door, this is a great idea to use year-round. For the fall season, get decorative with your lighting by mounting candle holders on each side of the door.

You could also mount lanterns or string lights along with the door frame. Why decorate your doorway if you can’t see it at night, right?

6. Use Doormats

Doormats are a must for decorating around your front door – they are so simple to pair with any decor for any season.

7. Use What Nature Has to Offer

DIYing your decor makes decorating that much more fun. During such a beautiful season as fall, it’s a good idea to use what nature has to offer for decor.

Depending on where you are, you can find acorns along the ground, leaves falling, branches breaking off, and flowers blooming all about. Use these items from your own backyard to create decor for your doorway. 

8. Hang Garland 

Just like the ivy and greenery, garland is another great option to use over your doorway. You can find garlands at any local craft store or grocery store.

Some are fall scented, and some don’t have a smell at all. There are different lengths and colors to choose from as well. If you don’t add it to your doorway, then you should definitely add it to your living room decor

9. Use Farmhouse Signs

Farmhouse signs are all the craze lately – and we all love a good farmhouse look. Using large farmhouse signs to lean up again your doorway or hang on your front door is an idea used by many for the fall season.

You can even make your own farmhouse sign out of an old shutter. Create your own custom fall decor and save some money when you do. You can’t beat that!

10. Don’t Forget to Brighten it Up 

Don’t forget the lights! As mentioned above, you can mount light fixtures along your doorway, but another way to brighten things up is to incorporate string lights.

If you have plants, pumpkins, garland, or ceramics layered next to the doorway, string some lights along the inside of them to light them up during the evening time. Watch your front door decor glow!
