Easy DIY Christmas Wreath {How to Make a Christmas Wreath from Scratch}

This is one of those posts that I am almost embarrassed to share because it hardly qualifies as a DIY. It was SO EASY. This easy DIY Christmas wreath literally took me about 5 minutes to put together—and I would rank it a 1 on a 1-10 difficulty scale.

5-Minute Project – DIY Grapevine Wreath

I love crafting during the holidays! I don’t nearly have as much time to do these crafts as I wish I did, though. That’s why all my Christmas crafts – like this one – are simple and take less than an hour to finish.

Not only is this easy DIY Christmas wreath a snap to put together, but it’s also really inexpensive too! I think I spent about $15 total on this one, and I’ve already gotten a ton of compliments.

It can double as a DIY gift for a newlywed couple or you can plan a girls’ night in where everyone can create their own wreath in no time at all.

I think my favorite thing about this wreath is that it fits into any home decor theme for the holidays. It’s beautifully rustic with a cottage charm to it. And since it’s made out of grapevines, it will last you for a very long time if taken care of properly.

How to Make an Easy DIY Christmas Wreath

I’m so happy to share this tutorial with you! It’s the perfect way to turn an inexpensive wreath into a beautiful craft to add to your rustic and simple Christmas decor

I’ll show you how to personalize this wreath and make it reflect your unique personality. Plus, it doesn’t take much time to put together, either.

Ready to learn how to make a Christmas wreath from scratch? Let’s do this!

Supplies

First, gather your supplies. For this project, you’ll need:

How to Make A Christmas Wreath – Instructions

1. Hot glue the Christmas picks to the wreath.

Take the Christmas picks and guide them into the grapevine wreath, securing with hot glue. Put them in all the way so they are sitting snug against the wreath

2. Layer the Christmas picks together.

Layer several different picks together, gluing each layer into the brambles of the wreath. At this point, you will want to hot glue them down one at a time.

3. Add Christmas decorations to the wreath in your own style.

I started with my snowy white one first and then I added some red berries on top of it. As you can see, these Christmas wreath decorations don’t stay in the grapevine wreath very well. That’s why I decided to hot glue them. Now they won’t budge!

I prefer to keep mine simple and like to only have the decor on one side of the wreath, so this took me about 3 minutes.

4. Add a ribbon to your wreath.

Once everything was secure, I tied a ribbon to the bottom of my wreath in a bow shape. There are lots of tutorials online about how to tie a bow on a wreath. I had no idea there were so many different ways to tie a bow!

As you can see, I just did a very basic and simple bow. This one resembles the kind you tie on your shoes.

In fact, I found a video that shows you 9 different ways to create bows out of ribbons.

5. Hang your wreath on your door.

I just attached my tree directly to my wreath hook but, I’ve seen other people use ribbon or string.

The end! Hah! I told you all this was an easy DIY Christmas wreath!

Grapevine Wreath Scratching the Door

Is your wreath leaving scratch marks on your door? This is easy enough to fix. Instead of hanging it directly on the hook, tie a ribbon around the top and let it hang loosely.

Another idea you can try is to hot glue some felt around the back of the wreath. This way it’s soft against your door. Use brown felt to match your wreath and no one will be able to tell.
