Easy Mother’s Day Gift
I’m really excited to share today’s post with you all! This is an easy-to-make DIY project that would be perfect as a Mother’s Day gift (or to keep for yourself, I won’t tell!). Let’s get started!
To make this project even more fun, I’m participating with some of my blogger friends to highlight different ways to makeover this plant stand as part of a monthly Create and Share challenge hosted by Stephanie from Casa Watkins. A group of us all purchased this bench and decided to give it a makeover—so many fun and creative results! So here’s the before:
This piece had me stumped for a bit, but I had a lightbulb moment and decided I was going to make a pin cushion! You guys, it was a super easy diy. Here’s the supplies you’ll need (you can click each image below for easy purchasing):
To make the pin cushions, I filled the pots with batting until they were the shape I wanted. Make sure you push down hard to get it all the way to the bottom as you’ll want your pin cushion to be firm. Once I had the right amount of batting, I took the piece of fabric and placed the batting in the middle, then made it into a round shape (see photo below).
Once I had the shape ready, I put hot glue inside the pot at the bottom and the sides, then pushed the shape into the pot (tail side at the bottom!). This is where the life-changing hot glue finger caps came into play big time- I could safely push the fabric down further so there were no wrinkles without burning my hand off. Seriously, awesome.
Once your pin cushions are in the pots and set, it’ll look something like this:
Now it’s pin time! 🙂 I picked these colorful pins to replicate flowers. I used two boxes of these—one for each side!
I found the pins look much better if you vary the height and colors. See?
Tada! Isn’t it super cute? I can’t wait to gift this one. Mom, I know you’re reading, so just pretend you didn’t see. 🙂
