How To Decorate Around A TV

No matter if your TV is mounted to a wall, sitting on top of a piece of furniture, or in an entertainment system, I am sure you are wondering just how to decorate around a TV. Today, I’m sharing some different ways to do just that, so if you need inspiration in decor – this list is for you!

Decorating Around A Television

Years ago, before flat-screen TVs, we would hide our electronics and gaming systems in huge cabinets or in what we called “armoires.” Now that TVs are getting thinner and lighter, these pieces of furniture are no longer needed – or wanted – in living rooms today.

Most people nowadays have a TV mounted to the wall or displayed out in the open, so we are facing a new challenge of how to decorate around the TV. Figuring out exactly how to incorporate a TV into a room (while fitting your style) can feel a bit daunting.

TVs aren’t going anywhere – and good thing, because we all love a good Netflix binge! So, I have gathered together some wonderful ways to decorate around any TV. I hope this gives you some inspiration and helps you create a living room space you love.

Tips And Tricks For Decorating Around Your TV

I am a firm believer that houses should be lived in, so keep in mind your style and home life when decorating around your TV. Here are a few routes you can go – decide which option is best for your home:

Distract From The TV

If you are looking to distract your company (and yourself) from seeing the TV as the focal point of your room, then this may be the best option for you. To keep your focus off the TV, try adding a gallery wall or a large piece of skinny framed art above it to draw the eye.

Hide Your TV

If you are one wanting your TV completely hidden, try building a cabinet that allows you to close it when not in use. Or, hang a sliding piece of art over your television that can easily be slid out of the way when watching and back into place when you’re done.

Frame Your TV

Consider framing out your TV in lumber, helping it look more a part of the room. Fun Tip: Match the lumber to already framed artwork or photos in the room for a cohesive look.

Build Shelves Out Around Your TV

This can be done yourself, or you can hire a professional. Having shelves helps you easily add decor around your TV, drawing more attention to the shelves versus your TV.

Ideas For How To Decorate Around A TV

Paint The Wall Behind Your TV

Painting an accent wall behind your TV a solid dark color helps with hiding the TV from sticking out. You can still decorate around the tv by adding some framed artwork or lamp fixtures, but I love the simple decor idea of a solid color accent wall for your TV to sit in front of – or be mounted on.

Build A DIY frame Around Your TV

Building a DIY frame around your TV is so simple to do and really helps add a decorative touch. When adding a frame around your television, you really help it not be an eyesore, appearing more like a picture frame than a TV.

Build Shelving Around Your TV

Adding shelving or built-ins around your TV helps draw less focus on the TV and more on the shelving decor. If you do not already have wall built-ins, you can make them yourself by adding tall bookshelves on each side of your TV.

Styling these shelves to your taste really helps turn the room from just somewhere your TV lives to one that is all about style!

No need to go overboard when creating a gallery wall around your TV. Imagine how you can incorporate your TV into a gallery wall – instead of trying to hide it by overloading the wall with tons of frames.

Hang Large Art Work Above Your TV

Using a long, narrow wood sign with your favorite quote or last name on it really makes a wow statement. This is a way to tie in wall decor around your TV that is not only sleek, but has meaning to you.

Build A TV Wall Cabinet To Store Your TV In

Having a beautiful cabinet in your living room can create a main focal point. You can completely hide your television in the cabinetry, and bring the focus of the room to the cabinet that is storing it – rather than the unsightly TV.

Add Plants Beside Your TV

When adding greenery to your decor, you bring the focus to the plants and away from your TV. You may even want to add small succulent plants around your TV if it is hanging above a mantle or sitting on an entertainment center. Plants are great additions to any room and help lighten it up – and going big is okay! Bonus: Plants can be real or faux!

Add Floating Shelves Above Your TV

Frame out your TV by hanging some shelves above it. Once your shelves are hung, add some of your favorite trinkets to them. This is a simple and inexpensive way to decorate around your TV.

Add A Table Underneath

Adding a wooden table beneath your wall-mounted TV can help create an amazing space for decor. You can add books, candles, lamps, and even vases with silk florals. The options are nearly limitless!

Built In TV Cover

These are so cute and by far the best solution if you are wanting to conceal a wall-mounted TV when you’re not watching. I am loving the covers that look like artwork, shutters, and even mirrors. These can be built yourself or bought online.
