But, do I have the time to so all these renovations? Nope.
I want to one day but today is not that day. I know you guys get it.
But still I have been thinking of ways to change up the look of my home but that would be time-saving and wallet friendly at the same time…
Then, I saw something on Pinterest: Accent walls.
I don’t know why I didn’t think of it before! One of the easiest and most fun ways to totally redo your room’s decor is to paint an accent wall.
This trend is hot and I want to jump on this ASAP. Here are some accent wall ideas I found that has been a huge help.
I hope this will inspire you to go get some paint and start decorating!
Accent Wall Ideas For Your Home
I love the look of a room with a bold accent wall. It really brightens up the room and it can be a really easy way to create a focal point.
I love to add a few gallery walls as well but I keep going back to accent or feature walls.
One of my favorite (and my hubby’s) things about accent walls is that they are budget-friendly! Instead of investing in the time and money to repaint every single wall, you are just decorating one.
Plus, instead of hanging up frames, you are using paint! Just take a look at these ideas and try one of them out in your home.
1. Colorful Blocks
Geometric shapes are very popular on accent walls. The idea below is for anyone that is renting an apartment or in a dorm room where they aren’t allowed to paint.
Attach colorful cardstock to the walls. Instant feature wall!
If you wanted to, I bet you could paint this too. Take this idea and make it your own – use a rainbow of colors or just a few.
2. Polka Dots
Another really fun way to create an accent wall is with polka dots! The best thing about this idea is that she did half polka dots and half of a painted fence.
It’s perfectly adorable.
To paint polka-dots, you can use stencils which is the easiest way. You can also find colorful wall stickers too!
3. Hand-Painted Design
I’m legit impressed with this next idea! She literally hand-painted every. single. dash. on that wall.
GOALS!
This is such a simple idea that looks really impressive when it’s completed. If I painted this, I’d have to use painter’s tape to keep my lines straight.
4. Geometric Shapes
Geometric shapes on accent walls are another really hot trend right now.
To get this look, you just have to use painter’s tape to create the triangles and shapes. Then, just paint inside of them and peel the tape off!
You can make the shapes as large or as small as you want.
5. Floral Mural
I had to include this idea because it was just way too stunning not to. I can’t take my eyes off of this breathtaking mural.
There are lots of “peel and stick” wallpapers out there you can use for a feature wall if you don’t happen to be a mural-painter or have a friend that is.
I did something really similar when I was putting together Lily’s baby nursery and I’m so happy I picked out the floral accent wall. It’s my favorite!
6. Stars Wallpaper
Shapes are a really fun and gender-neutral way to create an accent wall. I love these stars – they make the perfect monochrome decor!
There are so many ways you can add shapes to a feature wall. Attach some wall stickers, paint with stencils, or even paint by hand (if you are brave enough!).
7. Bedroom Accent Wall
One of the most popular places to add an accent wall is the bedroom. There are lots of creative ideas out there – this is one of my favorites!
This is a really fun way to create a statement piece in your bedroom. I love how well those colors go together. The only downside to murals like this is that it’s so busy you can’t really hang any art up.
It’s totally up to you!
8. Easy Mountain Mural
If you want to paint a mural but you aren’t confident in your painting abilities, this mountain mural is a great place to start.
Chelsea from Making Manzanita shared a super-easy tutorial so you can make your own mountain mural. She even shares which colors to use and in what order!
It’s perfectly gender-neutral and grows with your child.
9. Honeycomb Wall
Honeycombs, or hexagons, are another really easy shape you can create with painter’s tape. The end result is stunning!
You could paint all of them the same color, but what’s the fun in that? I love the gradient that she created and how she accented a few of them in the middle with bolder colors.
10. Board and Batten Wall
Another really big trend right now is adding board and batten to the feature wall. It adds depth and texture to the wall and it’s easier to do than you might think!
Emily from Small Stuff Counts created a stunning and functional entryway with the board, batten, and some stunning navy paint.
I love that she added an accent mirror and table as well. It really makes the entryway functional and appears larger!
Tips and Hacks For Your Accent Wall
Are you ready to start redoing one of your walls yet? I AM!
Here are some more tips to keep in mind when you start to redecorate a room with a bold accent wall.
1. Pair A Bold Wall With Muted Decor
When you paint one of your walls with bright colors or gutsy shapes, you should let that wall be the star of the room. Don’t try to compete with this wall in the rest of your room’s decor.
For example, if you paint a rainbow-colored wall, use lighter shades on your bed and furniture.
2. Incorporate the Colors Throughout the Room
To help your accent wall blend in with the rest of your room’s decor, pull color’s from the wall into other parts of the room.
If you have a blue and white accent wall, use blue throw pillows or lay a blue rug down.
3. Use Different Materials
Think beyond just paint!
When you are trying to choose accent wall colors, you can use all sorts of different materials too. There are people love that using wood, board and batten, and even shiplap.
Painting accent walls isn’t the only option- You can use wallpaper too!
Be creative and do what makes you happy!
