How to Make a DIY Halloween Pennant
This Halloween flag craft makes the perfect addition to Boo Baskets or other seasonal gifts and makes really cute decor! Here’s all you need to know to create your own!

Supplies for Pennant Flag:
All these supplies can be found in my Amazon Storefront, or I’ve linked them individually for you below!
- Felt in 2 colors (I used black and white and pink and white!)
- Wooden dowel
- Hot glue gun & glue sticks
- Fabric glue
- 2-3 different ribbons and/or yarn – get creative with it!
- Zip ties – you only need a few
- Optional: Cricut Maker – this is an incredibly versatile cutting machine you won’t regret investing in! This project can be completed by hand, but this cutting machine really makes for a clean, quality end result!

Directions:
Now that you’ve got the rundown of the supplies you’ll need for this Halloween flag craft, here are the instructions & some visuals to make these cute DIY pennants!
- Grab your two different colors of felt and prepare supplies for your preferred cutting method. I used my Cricut machine, but you are welcome to just cut out the pieces!

- Cut a pennant shape and letters out.

- Use fabric glue to secure letters to the pennant flag.

Once the letters are placed and secure, you’re ready for the next step. Of course, I had to try a pink version, too!

- Next, use hot glue to glue to secure the pennant to the rod. You’ll glue down the rod along the edge, and then roll a bit and secure with more glue for extra durability and a more seamless look.
Psst.. You may want to trim a little felt off the top corner if it sticks out!

- With an assembled pennant flag, it’s time to create the tassel! Choose an assortment of ribbon – this is an opportunity to get really fun and stylish!
Cut some yarn and hold it up to your dowel to get an idea of the length you want.

- Then, a little hack – use a book similar in size to the length to make your tassel! Wrap the yarn and ribbon around a book about 15-20 times, then cut the excess end.

- Add a zip tie and tighten to cinch all the yarn together.

- Then, cut the yarn on the underside of the book, opposite to where you placed the zip tie, to create the tassel bunch. Trim as needed.

- Use a second zip tie to attach to the pennant’s rod.

- And voila! Your ultra cute, kinda spooky Halloween pennant flag craft is complete!

I love BOTH versions of this quick Halloween DIY. I can’t wait to add them to my kid’s Boo Baskets this year for a thoughtful, extra touch of fun!
