The New Master Bath Floorplan
Thank you all for your sweet words on my last post about the beginnings of our master bath remodel! Things are coming along really nicely, but I thought it would be good to share an updated floorplan since we have (yet again!) made some fairly major floorplan changes in the house to help the master bath function.
I actually hand-drew a floorplan to share with you guys! I’m not an artist and these aren’t necessarily to scale, but I did my best. The solid lines represent how things are right now, the dashed lines are showing how things were (about two weeks ago!).
Let’s start with the bottom right, which is the front door. That hasn’t changed. 🙂 A few weeks ago, there was a wall right in front of you when you walked in. If you recall, we actually added that wall ourselves thinking we could use the extra space to add onto the master bath (spoiler alert- we didn’t use it!). This area has gone through several variations. Check it out!
First, we built the wall (I didn’t take any pictures, boo!) and I painted it chevron. You can read about it here.
Basically as soon as it was up I decided I hated the chevron pattern. I tried to live with it for a bit, but gave our entry way a sweet makeover that I liked much, much more. Check it out here in the post I wrote, aptly titled ,”I’m over chevron”.
Well, if you can imagine it, the wall is gone now. Photos coming soon. 🙂
Another big change in the floor plan is the removal of the hall entrance. If you guys remember, we hated that the guest/hall bathroom was the same as the master bathroom, so we busted through a hall closet and updated a jack-and-jill bath to make it the guest/hall bath with the intent of sealing off the hall entrance to the master. So here’s the “during” of the doorway in the master! It’ll be a door no longer very soon. 🙂
Originally when you walked in the master bath from the master bedroom, there was a closet on the left hand side and a long vanity on the right. We removed the vanity to make a second closet. So now when you walk in, there are two closets—one on each side.
This is a flipped view from the photo above. The door straight ahead is our master bedroom. So as you can see, the vanity was on the left in this photo and is now gone!
Straight in front of you as you enter used to be another long, pointless vanity. When you turned right there was a teeny, tiny room that had a small sink, toilet and a shower. We blew that whole room up and took out the dividing wall. We’ll be adding a double sink where that long vanity and the sink used to be. The toilet will stay where it was.
Maybe the biggest change? The shower. Remember awhile back when Scott drywalled the random closet that was in our room? That closet was right behind the original shower and our idea was always to make it a giant one. Well, as you saw in the photos on my last post—it happened!
I can not get over how fast things are happening in our house! What would have taken us a year or so to do on nights and weekends is taking our contractors a couple of weeks. Counting down the days until I can be showering in that huge lovely shower! 🙂
