Mother’s Day 2020 is definitely a holiday way different from years past. It’s safer to stay home, which makes Mother’s day celebrations a lot different.

While shopping for gifts online may be no different than normal, celebrating mother’s day at home means no going out to restaurants, or treating mom to a day at the spa.

All of the above doesn’t mean mom deserves any less of a celebration, however. In fact, after weeks of being home with family basically 24/7, she deserves an extra festive day!

Mother’s Day At Home Ideas

If you are struggling with what to do or buy this Mother’s Day, don’t worry – I’ve got you covered! While trying to celebrate myself and also give my own mama some love, I was able to come up with some ideas.

I’ll take you every step of the way – from the cards to the gifts to the food – and help you create the most memorable and special Mother’s Day ever!

DIY Home Spa Treatments for Mom

Mom deserves a relaxing and rejuvenating spa day, even if it’s in her own home. I have six ideas that will turn your bathroom into a peaceful oasis!

DIY Sugar Scrub

All you need to make this body scrub is some brown sugar, coconut oil, your favorite essential oil, and rose petals. This will leave your mom’s skin smooth and refreshed!

DIY Bath Bombs

Give your mom time to just relax and soak in the tub. All you need to make your own DIY bath bombs are some baking soda, citric acid, corn starch, your favorite essential oils, and Epsom salt.

Follow my easy tutorial and learn how to make your own!

Lavender Bath Soak

Another relaxing bath idea that is a lot easier to make than bath bombs is a jar of lavender bath salts.

This tutorial takes you through everything step-by-step! When your mom takes a bath with this, she will feel her stress just melt away.

DIY Hair Mask

Another fun spa treatment for your mom is a DIY hair mask!

Did you know avocados are full of healthy fats that are super-nourishing for your hair?

Edible Mud Mask

Homemade facial masks are also a ton of fun!

This one is made with all edible ingredients. It has lemon juice, honey, banana, and cocoa in it (along with a few other ingredients too). I’m not gonna lie- it smelled sooooo good!

It has this chocolatey scent as you spread it all over your face. You and your mom will laugh as you put this food on as a mask!

Mother’s Day At Home Afternoon Tea

Since we can’t really go out and celebrate mom at a fancy restaurant of her choice, we decided to put on our own Mother’s Day tea party!

I had SO much fun setting my table, preparing the tea, and even making my own pastries.

Treat mom to a mother's day tea or mother's day brunch that she'll love!

The end result is stunning and makes everyone feel like a VIP!

Here are a few of my tips on how to host your own Mother’s Day tea. I even included some decor tips and food ideas 😉

Mother’s Day Brunch

Instead of a fancy tea, you could also host a Mother’s Day brunch at home-virtually! Ask your mom for her favorite foods, brunch preferences, and cocktails.

If you are the mom, tell your kids what you want to be served. This is all about moms anyways!

Here are some of my favorite brunch recipes:

Roasted Mushroom and Bacon Dutch Boy

Country Living has a really fancy and easy recipe. It comes out looking like a rustic breakfast pie.

It’s so beautiful you won’t want to eat it!

Lemon Blueberry Ricotta Pancakes

Who knew the secret to fluffy pancakes is ricotta cheese?

Jo Cooks has this amazing recipe I have been wanting to try forever. The lemon and blueberry make these pancakes so fresh and not too sweet all at the same time.

Ham and Cheese Brunch Bake

This breakfast casserole from Delish will feed the entire family. It has all of your favorite breakfast ingredients in one dish!

It’s hearty enough that it will keep everyone feeling full until dinner.

Almond Granola Smoothie Bowls

Smoothie bowls are a very trendy brunch idea and are always packed with fruits and fiber. Brit.co has a colorful and healthy idea that uses almond granola. YUM!

Pom-Lime French 75

A French 75 is a really fancy cocktail made with sparkling wine, gin, lime juice, and syrup. Good Housekeeping has the dazzling recipe.

Raspberry Cream Mimosa

It’s not brunch without some mimosas! These are a festive raspberry color made with frozen raspberries and some half and half cream.

Best Movies To Watch At Home on Mother’s Day

After you enjoy a tea or a hearty brunch, settle down and watch some movies together.

If you have small children, Disney’s BRAVE is a movie with a strong focus on motherhood (we’ve watched it a minimum of 10x this week).

If you or your mother have older children, then enjoying the movie Mother’s Day is always a fun choice! I always laugh a ton at the predicaments of these characters!

Books To Read on Mother’s Day

Do you or your mom enjoy reading? Spending time at home curled up with a good book could be a magical way to spend Mother’s Day at home.

If you need some new books to read, I seriously suggest these three:

Try A Family Board Game

Mother’s Day is also a perfect time to try a new board game together. It seems like there are new ones being produced every month!

Kids of all ages – even adults – love Exploding Kittens. The cards are funny and the entire game doesn’t take very long to learn or to play.

Spot It can be played with 2-8 players. This is like a fast-paced game of Eye Spy and it comes in a convenient travel tin.

If you want to laugh your tail off, then play Spontuneous together! This is a party game that is better with at least 4 people.

Make Your Own Flower Arrangement

You can also create your own floral arrangement for mom when you are at home.

Follow my complete tutorial and you’ll learn how to arrange flowers like a professional. You’ll be able to create bouquets that rival those found in the flower shop.

Print Mother’s Day Cards At Home

There are lots of creative and meaningful Mother’s Day cards that you can print right at home. In fact, I have 45 different printable cards and sayings you can choose from!

In that same post, I also included some really helpful card-writing thought-starters. I know you love your mom, but sometimes it can just be tough to know how to put those feelings into words!

Last-Minute Mother’s Day Gifts

Shopping online can be frustrating, especially when you have to wait for it to arrive! That’s why this list of 51 last-minute DIY Mother’s Day gifts is so amazing.

Handmade gifts are so much more thoughtful too. From felt flowers to photos pressed on candles, you are going to find something genuinely thoughtful to make, and you don’t have to wait for shipping!

As you plan your Mother’s Day at home, think of things you and your family really enjoy doing together. Remember, this is all about mom! So make sure and pick things that she enjoys doing the most.
