Easy DIY Projects to Tackle When You’re Stuck at Home

When you are stuck at home, these are the easy DIY projects you should tackle first. All of them are really easy, I’ll show you how!

I’m talking about easy DIY house projects. These are simple things that won’t take you very long but it will make a huge difference in how your house looks.

Easy projects that I can actually finish? Those are my favorite kind!

Easy DIY Projects

If you are stuck at home, you might as well get some small projects done, right? Yes! Doing them will make you feel amazing. You’ll absolutely love how happy you are when you look around at all the small projects you’ve accomplished.

1. Swap Out Your Doorknobs

Updating doorknobs is such an easy project that even someone that has never used a tool before can do it. It’s also one of the quickest projects on this list. If you need immediate gratification, then start with this one.

It only took me about 10 minutes to swap out each doorknob.

I bought these inexpensive matte black doorknobs from Amazon. They are currently sold out but these doorknobs are very similar.

How To Choose Doorknobs

First, think about the theme you are going for. Are you trying to create a home decorated with antiques? Then go for a vintage doorknob. If you love the clean lines of modern design, then choose a minimalist doorknob.

Don’t overthink this step. If you don’t like your doorknobs after awhile, they are really easy to change again.

2. Install Over The Door Storage

Another thing that is super simple but will drastically improve your life is to install over the door storage. Believe me, you’ll finally have even more room to store your things. It’s a beautiful thing.

The ELFA from the Container store changed my life! It’s currently on sale – go check it out!

When you order from the Container Store, you can have everything delivered to you or use their curbside pickup.

What To Store On Your Doors

Whether you call it over the door or behind door storage, these systems are amazing. You can shut the door and everything shuts with it.

The options of what you can store in them are endless. Here are just a few ideas:

  • Bedroom – Store accessories like scarves
  • Bathroom – Hair dryer, curling iron, mousse, shampoos
  • Broom closet – Cleaning supplies, trash bags, dusters
  • Garage – Tools, car supplies, hats and gloves

3. Redo Your Cabinet Pulls

As easy as the doorknobs are to change, cabinet pulls are even easier. If your cabinets don’t have handles or pulls, add some. They add a tiny bit of flair to your kitchen with minimal effort.

I updated our kitchen with these cabinet pulls. I love the sleek, modern lines.

Cabinet pulls are also a really inexpensive way to update the look of your kitchen. There are tons of different styles out there. Before you go looking for cabinet pulls, browse a few different kitchen photos, and get an idea of what you like.

4. Declutter Your Home

This is one of my favorite DIY projects because it is so easy and it’s free!

Pick one area to start in. If you make your goal “declutter the entire house” you’ll get overwhelmed and quit when it’s half-finished.

Start somewhere small, like your bedroom closet. Then, move to the kitchen pantry. After you tackle all of the closets, you can move on to decluttering entire rooms.

Another tip that I’ve learned: stop decluttering when you have more stuff to donate than you have room in your car. It’s incredibly overwhelming to stare at bags and boxes in your living room.

5. Paint Your Front Door

One of my favorite easy DIY projects is to repaint the front door. It’s like stupid-easy and completely changes how your front step looks. You can increase your home’s curb appeal drastically with this one project.

We updated our front door by painting it with Sea Salt by Sherwin Williams. Just check out the before and after photos.

6. Change Your Bathroom Fixtures

When was the last time you updated your bathroom’s fixtures? This includes all the fun things like shower heads, faucets, and vanity lights.

Please, if you have never messed with plumbing or electrical, do your research before trying these projects. Double-check that the water and electricity are turned off first. This isn’t the easiest project on the list, but with a little preparation, even beginners can accomplish it.

7. Swap Out Electric Outlets

This next project should only be attempted if you already have electrical experience. Doing anything around electricity is dangerous, especially if you don’t know what you’re doing.

Changing the outlets can provide you with more options around your home. You definitely want to replace any plates that are cracked.

These outlets have USB ports in them so you can charge your electronics. It’s so clever!

8. Add Temporary Wallpaper

Adding temporary wallpaper can be a really easy way to change the look of your room without having to commit to a specific color or pattern. You can change these up as your mood changes.

I recently ordered this wallpaper for our master bath. I love how it adds dimension and depth to our master bathroom. We did a similar project in our laundry room and we love it!

I also ordered this wallpaper for our entryway. I love how subdued it is. It gives the area a perfect farmhouse feel.

9. Paint An Accent Wall

If you do want to dig into some paint, then start out with an accent wall. I love how an accent wall makes the entire room pop!

Accent walls add vibrancy without overpowering the entire room. There are several popular versions of accent walls. You can paint a solid color, add a mural, or paint geometric shapes.

How To Choose Which DIY Projects To Start First

When you are trying to decide which project to start first, start small. Pick something that you know you’ll be able to finish. That feeling of accomplishment will motivate you to do the next project.

Also, consider your budget too. Some of the projects on this list are much cheaper than others.
