DIY Sugar Scrub for Lips & Body
Can I first of all just say I am not a fan of winter? I mean, Christmas is awesome and New Years is fun but after January first you are stuck with gross weather and no days off work for months and months. Plus, on top of that my skin, lips and hair get really dry.
In fact, last week I was home sick with strep AND a sinus/severe ear infection. My whole face felt tender and dry and on top of that, my lips were cracked and bleeding—probably because I couldn’t breathe from my nose and was using my mouth that much more. I was exhausted and miserable but finally pulled myself up off the couch to give myself a little luxurious treat—I made a super simple 3 ingredient sugar scrub. It took me about one minute to gather my supplies, one minute to put it together and one minute to apply and rinse off. So I called it a three-minute sugar scrub. Bonus!—I let Scott try it and he said, “it tastes just like a lemon bar!”. So thus it’s now called a three-minute lemon bar sugar scrub. It’s quick and delicious and most likely you already have the ingredients at home.
Step one: assemble your ingredients. For this scrub I used 1 tsp of coarse brown sugar, 1/2 tsp of coconut oil and 2 drops of Young Living lemon essential oil (you can click here if you are interested in learning more about how I use my essential oils!). Combine all three in a small bowl. That’s it. If you don’t have lemon essential oil you can use a few drops of lemon juice or olive oil.
Once it’s combined, put it on your mouth! 🙂 I just used my finger to scoop some up and rub around gently on my lips for about 30 seconds and let sit for 30 seconds. I still had some left over so I used it to scrub my hands gently—it was such a treat! For a few minutes I almost forgot about my sinuses! 😛 I won’t lie to you guys—this stuff tastes really good. It’s non-toxic and 100% natural so if you taste a little bit…it’s okay. Bonus—you could totally make a larger batch of this and give it to someone for a Valentine’s Day gift!
Does anyone have any tips for keeping lips and skin moisturized? I’d love to hear them! Spring…come soon!

i’m the same – not a fan of winter! i love the holidays but after that, boohickey.
i will definitely have to try this scrub – and i have just discovered maybelline’s babyliss or something or other and it is without a doubt the BEST lip balm / chapstick I have ever used!!
isn’t brown sugar the cure-all? i swear it’s a miracle worker. i like using it with a little coconut oil as a face scrub 🙂
I want to try this! I love lemon!!! And, I use coconut oil for lotion 🙂
So you basically have almost everything you need! I love lemon too…even more mixed with sugar. 😀
Very nice! I’ll definitely have to try this. Three of my favorite things – sugar, lemon, and coconut oil!
You really can’t go wrong with any of those three IMHO. 😀
