Young Living Essential Oils Review + Giveaway

Young living essential oils review (2 of 2)

Do you all remember Fla Vor Ice? They were these popsicles in these plastic tubes that came in all these really fun colors. There was an orange one that was supposed to taste like orange, a red one that’s supposed to taste like cherry, a purple one that’s supposed to be like grape. They came in these giant boxes and they were liquid and squishy and came in strips and you had to stick them in your freezer, impatiently wait several hours, then choose the flavor of your fancy. I only know all of this from experiences at friends houses. My mom never let us buy those things.

At the time, it was super annoying. I wanted my tongue to be red and cool too like all my friends, but instead we had fruit. She told me those pops were full of dyes and artificial flavors and all kinds of nasty things—and as usual she was right. They are kinda nasty and now that I’m an adult I don’t buy them either. My kiddos probably won’t get them at home (sorry future darling dearest little ones!).

The older I’ve gotten, the more I’ve gravitated towards natural, holistic things. For the last several years I’ve preferred to create my own cleaning agents rather than purchase commercial ones with a lot of chemicals. I also prefer whole foods to processed ones. The one area where I didn’t use any natural treatments was when it came to medicines. I really believed that a pill could fix me better and faster than any other thing out there, but turns out I was wrong again. 🙂

When my sister in law (hi Amy!) started using essential oils in lieu of some medicines for herself and her family, I was definitely interested. After going to a class with her and watching her use them for several months, I decided to take the plunge myself. For the past 4 months I’ve been using Young Living Essential Oils. I mentioned it briefly here but I wanted to take the time to share a little bit more about my experience with them since they are a huge part of my daily routine.

I went with Young Living because of their strict standards. They are therapeutic high-grade oils that are animal-testing free (that’s a big one to me these days!). These are safe to apply topically and most are safe to ingest which is a big difference between the essential oils you will find in grocery and health food stores.

There are three ways you can use the oils. Aromatically- you mix a few drops with water and use the diffuser that comes with the kit to fill your room with the oil’s scent and benefits. Topically- you apply to your skin/trouble spot, usually with with a carrier oil (I usually use coconut or olive oil) to dilute it since it’s so strong. Lastly you can ingest the oils—DO NOT eat the ones from the grocery stores! Only this grade of essential oils! —either with some water, or in a gel capsule.

I decided to dive right in and order the premium kit. It wasn’t cheap—but for $160 I got a lot of bang for my buck. They have since changed the premium kit and made it an even better deal! I wanted to just share how I (or those I personally know) have used the oils that came in their kits. Before I share— please know that I am not a doctor and these are simply my opinions. I can’t provide you with any medical treatments. Also- each bottle has different instructions so educate yourself and be careful!

Joy: I use this in my diffuser. It’s fantastic for times you are feeling a bit down—or during meditation. I also put a couple drops in my bath at night.

Frankincense: This is by far the BEST zit killer I have ever used. I mentioned it briefly here in my post about my skincare routine, but I have to rave about it again. Just a drop at night will make any blemishes completely gone by morning.

Oil for beauty (2 of 3)

Lemon: I love this oil. I use it for a ton of different things—it’s probably one of my most used ones. I ingest this one in a glass of water throughout the day—it’s fantastic for energy, alertness and a bright mood. I also take this in a capsule with a few drops of peppermint and lavender to help with allergies. Carefully diluted, I also use it as a skin toner. If I feel anxious or stressed, I’ll take out the bottle and sniff it and I feel better. I also diffuse it in the air pretty regularly.

Lavender: In addition to using this aromatically in my diffuser (smells like amazing!!) I also place drops in my bathwater. Lavender is also fantastic for dry skin or lips—I mix it with face products or lotions. Lavender is a great remedy for burns too- I can vouch for it’s healing powers on a nasty burn I had on my hand from an unfortunate oven incident. Also- we use lavender on the bottom of Boomer’s paws during rainstorms. He has really bad anxiety and we have tried EVERYTHING—this is the only thing that has worked for him. We were really surprised and excited!

Peppermint: This is my favorite oil hands down. Scott and I are hooked on this one big time. Diluted with olive oil, peppermint oil is the best cure I have found for a headache. It’s also awesome for achey muscles. If I ever am out of gum, I’ll place a drop on my tongue and gargle with water—you don’t get much fresher than that! This past week I have had major sinus issues and my nose was super stuffy. I rubbed peppermint on my sinus areas and the side of my nose, and within 10 minutes my cavities were all draining.

Purification: This one smells so amazing. It neutralizes odor big time which is always nice to have around.

Peace & Calming: Peace & calming lives up to its name for sure. It smells like a spa in a bottle

Thieves: This is an oil that I have had to use several times for dental issues to numb tooth pain. It’s amazing—literally one drop on a q-tip kept my toothache at bay. I also gargled it with water to numb a sore throat, and with olive oil on my chest and throat to soothe sickness. I use this one with cleaning a lot since it has antibacterial properties, so it’s great for homemade cleaners which I’m a big fan of. 🙂

Valor: I haven’t really experimented or used this one much yet, so I can’t speak to it for myself. But it is one of the most popular ones and is supposed to be awesome for sleeping issues. I have diffused it a few times before bed and slept great!

Pan Away: This smells exactly like BenGay (I loveeee that smell) and serves the same function. It’s great for muscle aches, although I usually turn to peppermint because I’m obsessed with it. 🙂

So that’s a brief summary of how I use my oils. There are literally hundreds of ways for each, but I’m still learning and experimenting.
