Celebrations!

Hi there! We have had such a fun whirlwind last few weeks- lots of celebrations and parties with friends….annnnd we watched the entire 1st and 2nd seasons of the Walking Dead and the entire 3rd season of Downton Abby…sooooo yeah. No spoilers but if anyone wants to discuss life in England in the early 1900s or an emergency plan in case of zombie attack- let’s hang out.

One of the hardest part of remodeling for us has been not being able to have people over.  Let’s face it- few people want to come to your house, breathe in asbestos (kidding?!?!), eat a meal you cooked on your bathroom counter and cram into a small, packed bedroom that you have made into an efficiency type apartment for yourself.  So- you better believe that as soon as things were up and running….our friends had the open invite once again.

We celebrated Amy’s birthday back in January.  I love Amy! She is Scott’s sister and has become a close friend for sure.  She is a wonderful mother/sister/daughter/friend/etc.  We were so excited to host her family birthday party!

I was able to totally impress her kiddos with my chalkboard wall.  #OneOfTheCoolKids. I also was so pleased that everyone enjoyed our fireplace (and newly painted bookshelves!) by playing a fun game of monopoly. Also, of course I had my little paparazzi in training there to keep me camera company 🙂

For the meal we served Man Pleasing Chicken (for some reason I keep calling this Get You a Man Chicken, and Scott says I can get anything I want when I make it so I make it a lot), cauliflower mashed potatoes and my favorite salad (recipe coming soon!).  My in-laws also brought super yummy rice crispy treats.  Yum!

We had a wonderful conversation amongst us adults while the “kiddos” watched WallE. 😉 lol.

Happy Birthday again Amy! 🙂

That same weekend we also celebrated my dad’s birthday with my family.  My dad is such a cool guy! He is literally the most intelligent person I know, and the only other person who shares my ferocious appateite/fondness/passionate love for reading.  I got my red hair from him and my disposition to take it easy and not stress too much (well I try!).  He’s a provider for our family and (along with my mom) has really encouraged me to pursue my dreams of photography and writing.  🙂

So we had a fun celebration for him where we ate seafood (you know I love you if I go eat seafood with you…blah. I ate chicken!) and went to see the movie Zero Dark Thirty which kind of made me want to be a CIA agent, but I think I’m already too old.  😛

Afterwards we went back to my parents and ate this amazing cake that I baked.  Seriously……freaking delicious.  I am so, so, so impressed with myself. Not only was the cake delish, it was gluten free and I iced it myself!!! I felt so legit.  The cake recipe was from the book Wheat Belly Recipes and the icing recipe is here.  This is the tutorial I used to ice it. This was a cake that was wheat free….but it was NOT healthy.  🙂 But it was delish!!!

In fact, my parents were so fun to hang out with we had them over to our place a few weeks later.  🙂 Aren’t they so gorgeous? Great DNA right?!?!?! 😉

We had a lovely lunch and just hung out and had fun!! We served our current signature meal- the Man Pleasing/Get You a Man Chicken, favorite salad and my Bacon Brussel Sprouts.  Yum!!! Our table was looking so pretty too!

A few weeks ago we had our friend Sang over! She is such a joy and gives the best hugs and is hilarious and gorgeous! We spent the entire day walking around the lake, and I dragged her grocery shopping with me and made her wash and cut vegetables.
🙂 She was a great sport.

While at the grocery store we picked red wine based solely on the labels (designer/photographer….what else did you expect from us??) and then gave them a stylized shoot. Sort of.  🙂  Then Scotty grilled us some steak.  Such a fun night! And yes…once again we made Bacon Brussell Sprouts…people keep requesting them what can I say 😛

Lastly- we had a very last minute Superbowl get-together with a few friends!  The two stars of the show were baby Daniel and Peanut Butter Pie….both creations made by my dear friend Crystal! 🙂

(Isn’t my Valentine’s Day banner super cute? I have a tutorial coming this week! 🙂 So festive and girly and fun! :))

The best part was seeing little Daniel with Boomer and Bella.  Good to know for future reference that they are obsessed with babies and didn’t try to eat his face off. Success for our future children! 🙂 Annnnnd now here are some more adorable baby pics….awwww

Soooo cute! Who wants to come over next???? 😉
