Not only are firepits the ultimate place to bond and chat on cool summer nights, but did you know they can also increase the value of your home? These are the 5 reasons you need a fire pit this summer.

Even more exciting? I’m giving one away thanks to my friends at Belgard! Keep reading to learn how you can enter for a chance to win.

I recently had the pleasure of touring and experiencing the HGTV Dream Home 2020. Let me tell you, it was beyond amazing. I know exactly why they call it a dream home, because it was!

After relaxing in the most beautiful backyard I’ve ever seen, I fell in love with their backyard fire pit. In fact, making s’mores with the other people there was my favorite part of the entire trip.

Then it hit me. I just had to share more with you about fire pits! Not many people know how amazing they are.

Why You Need A Fire Pit

When you think of back patios, backyard, and outdoor parties, what images come to mind? I’m sure there are music and food involved somewhere.

I love my backyard. It’s where my family hangs out when we invite them over. It’s a place big enough for Lily’s birthday party with dozens of friends and family members yet private enough for outdoor dates with my husband.

As I keep thinking about outdoor entertaining and amazing patios, I keep thinking about fire pits. From roasting hot dogs to huddling around the fire and telling stories, this is the ultimate backyard accessory.

Do you have one yet? If not, here are 5 of the best reasons why you need one.

#1 Bonding

One of my favorite memories from touring the HGTV Dream Home 2020 was making s’mores with the other people there. It was a great bonding experience.

We laughed and told stories and basically got to know each other without any pressure. It was so laid back and easygoing. I think part of the reason it was so fun was because of the chill vibe from the fire pit. I mean, it’s hard not to get real when you are covered in gooey marshmallow!

Imagine all the memories you can make with your family and friends. It’s also just a relaxing spot to catch your breath and spend some time alone.

In our own backyard, we have the Belgard fire pit kit. It is super easy to install. In fact, here’s the instruction manual so you can see. After you install it, you will have a stunning fire pit that looks like it took ages to build.

#2 Outdoor Food

Next, there are so many ways you can make food on your fire pit, and they are all a lot of fun.

You can roast hot dogs, make grilled cheese, and even pop some popcorn. The opportunities are endless!

Sure, you can make food inside the kitchen or on your grill, but there is something a lot more fun about making it over the open fire.

#3 Increase Home Value

Anything you do to improve your home increases its value and price. This includes installing a fire pit. This one addition to your yard makes the entire place look so much more enjoyable.

I even asked my husband, who is a realtor, and he agreed completely.

As potential buyers walk around your backyard and see your fire pit, they will begin to think of future parties they could have. This will make your house that much easier to sell.

#4 Better for Parties

Fire pits are excellent for parties too. If my experience at the HGTV Dream Home was any indication, a fire pit is a relaxing way to bring people together.

It provides warmth for the guests on chilly fall nights and gives light when the sun goes down. If you enjoy hosting parties at your house, a fire pit is a must.

#5 Deters Bugs

Finally, a fire pit actually helps keep bugs away. The smoke and heat from the fire are natural bug repellents. You can also add a few herbs to the fire. Then it will smell amazing in your yard and there will be even fewer bugs around.

These are the most effective herbs that you should add to your fire to keep those mosquitos at bay:

  • Lavender
  • Mint
  • Lemon balm
  • Sage
  • Citronella

Don’t add them all at once. Maybe just try one kind at a time. Let me tell you, this really does work!
