Scott and I have a lot of strengths. We’ve rearranged floor plans, painted at least a dozen walls, installed wood floors and have done our own plumbing and electric work. But I will be the very first to admit we both have black thumbs. If I’m being accurate it’s more like- what do we want to spend our time/energy/resources on? Creating pretty front yard landscaping, or having a bathroom with working plumbing? 🙂 Working plumbing ALWAYS wins in case you were wondering.
So needless to say, I was pretty ecstatic when a representative from Home Depot contacted me a few weeks back to invite us to join them for their stop in Dallas on their Spring Garden Tour.
Ya’ll. If anyone knows how to throw a garden party, it’s Home Depot. We had so much fun! There were arts and crafts, food, drinks, prizes, fantastic conversations, garden tool demonstrations and—of course—beautiful plants. 🙂
The weather happened to be absolutely perfect- it was warm with a light breeze and it seemed all of the city was eager to learn about gardening! After chatting with some friendly event organizers, we made our way to our first stop, which happened to be one of my favorites! We each got to decorate our own terra cotta pot. Of course we have had a little practice (here and here) so I think ours turned our pretty awesome.
As you can see, we both chose encouraging messages for our plants. 🙂 Luckily we were provided with some pretty awesome herbs from Bonnie Plants. I chose basil while Scott went with cilantro. I’m happy to report that so far, both herbs are doing great. 🙂
There was also a really neat display of a raised garden bed. We had one in our Richardson house…it made me a bit nostalgic!
I made a new friend which I dubbed Gnomie. Scott and I got to snap a photo with him. Sadly, he had to continue on the Garden Party tour, but I will treasure our time together in my heart. 🙂
One of the highlights for me at the party was getting to chat with the ladies from Southern Living Plant Collection. They were there sharing some fun party and DIY ideas. See that metallic centerpiece on the table below? It’s actually a wine rack spray painted gold. I love how they placed the flowers in tiny glass vases- such a fun centerpiece idea! Of course I was totally obsessed with their plate setting and gold flatware too! 😉
And the food. Ya’ll. Soooo tasty! Local chef/blogger Alta from Tasty Eats at Home did an absolutely incredible job of creating some fantastic recipes with fresh ingredients. There was chicken yakatori, grilled carrots and my favorite- grilled yellow squash with feta and basil. To wash it all down? Lemonade with basil and cucumber. So refreshing!
So who is surprised that right after leaving the Garden Party we went into the store and bought stuff to help fix our front yard up a bit? I felt so inspired. After leaving the store we headed home and spent 6 hours doing yard work. Of course I have some pictures to share soon. Anyone else feeling inspired? Let’s DO this!
Thanks to Home Depot for having us out for this fabulous event! To see if your city is on the Spring Garden Party Tour, find the list here.
