How to Throw a Gift Wrapping Party

Recently I put together a little gift wrapping party for some of my friends. Not only did this allow for a fun gathering with plenty of arts and crafts time (my favorite!) but it also encouraged me to get some Christmas shopping done early this year and not last minute on Amazon Prime (anyone else?). Plus, an excuse to create a fun holiday hot chocolate bar with delicious treats? Yup, these are a few of my favorite things. 🙂
I wanted to keep snacks somewhat simple since we would be gathering midday. I picked up some cupcakes and cookies as well as some clementines for a healthy option. I think they were just as popular as the sugary treats! 🙂 I also set up a little hot chocolate station with hot chocolate packets, marshmallows and mini candy canes for guests to make themselves a warm drink.
Since we needed a table for wrapping, I decided to use our dining room. Our 8 foot table served as the perfect spot to wrap and create!
I wanted to make sure we had a well-stocked table, so I included plenty of supplies including craft paper, gift boxes, gift bags, tissue paper, scissors, markers, paint and (of course!) tape!
Not just any tape though! I have been dying to find a reason to pick up more of this amazing tape I’ve seen in stores— Scotch® Expressions Tapes! It’s decorative washi tape that comes in a ton of super cool colors and patterns…including glitter which is perfect for the holiday season! As you can see…I may have gotten several of my favorite colors! 🙂 You guys already know I am pretty obsessed with decorative tape—but I’ve been really impressed with the new line from Scotch® Brands! It’s a perfect combination of versatility, function & fun that made wrapping presents extra fun this year!
In case anyone is looking for them, I found them at Walmart right by the Paper Crafting aisle. I almost missed them, they were at the very bottom of the shelf. Don’t go to the one by my house since I pretty much cleaned them out and bought them all! 😛
While I was there, I also picked up some Scotch® Create double-sided tape in both permanent and removable finishes. You’ll see why in a minute! 🙂
I wrapped my first gift using the craft paper (found in the mailing aisle at Walmart!). I then used Scotch® Expressions tape to create two red stripes, giving the gift a “border”.
I then used craft paint and a circle-shaped foam brush to create a polka dot pattern. I love the combo of red, gold and brown! It feels very rustic and Christmas-y to me.
This gift was hand-carried with me all the way from Paris! I thought it’d be the perfect thing for my niece, Evie, who loves unicorns and arts and crafts. I decided to use a white gift box but wanted to jazz it up a bit and personalize it by writing her name out in pink sparkly Scotch® Expressions tape! To make sure I didn’t mess up, I wrote it out in marker first, then placed the tape over it. Super easy and so cute!
Another gift I wrapped was for a friend who loves to cook. To give the gift a bit more of an elevated, personal feel (as well as a hint to what’s inside!) I purchased a set of wooden salad utensils and wrapped the end in this awesome graphic Scotch® Expressions tape. I think this one is my favorite pattern! I also made a matching gift tag, and placed it on the package which was striped with blue tape.
To adhere the utensils to the package, I used the Scotch® Create removable double sided tape. It held perfectly and it will be easy for my friend to remove it when she wants to use her utensils!
I had several clothespins sitting around that I wanted to use as part of the wrapping, but they looked a little blah. I thought about painting them, but then decided to try wrapping them with tape to see how they looked. It turned out perfect! Isn’t this pattern super cute? I love the tribal vibe and you guys know I love my mints and pinks! 🙂
I used the Scotch® Create permanent double-sided tape to adhere the clothespin to the package, then attached a gift tag I made a pattern on with Scotch® Expressions tape. Voila! Simple and elegant, just like Sarah. 🙂
I think this next one might be my favorite. I wanted to do something extra special with Scott’s gift (one of many!) so I hand-wrote out “I <3 you Scott!” over and over with markers. I then used the double-sided tape to attach one of my favorite photos ever of him (from our Diner en Blanc date a few months ago!) with the double-sided tape. I love that the tape is photo-safe! I added a bit of a fun border with the sparkly blue tape. Totally manly since it’s blue! 🙂
Don’t all of these look so great under our tree? Speaking of the tree, I’ll be sharing it with you all very soon! It’s begining to look a lot like Christmas! 🙂
