With the holidays coming up I’ve had gifting ideas on the mind. It wasn’t until I was with a friend shopping a few weeks ago that I realized that sometimes the best gifts are the most practical ones, as long as they’re all prettied up! 🙂
You see, at the time of our conversation, my friend was a brand-new mom to an adorable 3-month-old little girl. She and her husband were on their very first date night out after dropping off the baby with grandma and grandpa. They were so excited about a night out on the town sans diapers and spit up when the unthinkable happened—her husband got a horrible case of heartburn and she had a headache. Sad! She was so bummed when describing it to me that I made a mental note to always carry some sort of headache relief in my purse when an idea hit me—I was going to make her a medicine travel kit so no more of their precious date nights would be ruined again!
I went to Walmart during my lunch break to stock up on a few supplies from Pfizer. I knew I wanted to get something for her husband’s heartburn, so I picked up Nexium 24HR. Just so you all know, it may take 1 to 4 days for full effect, so use as directed. I also picked up Advil Liqui-Gels, which has advanced liquid fast relief, and Emergen-C for More Healthy Days, More Healthy Nights.
With the practical needs taken care of, I wanted to add in some fun things for her as well, so I added a compact mirror, lip gloss and gum and put everything in a cosmetic bag I purchased.
While I thought the bag was cute, it was missing the little something extra I was wanting, so I decided to fancy up the zipper by making a tassel for it.
This kind of tassel is super easy to make. I cut two strips of wide ribbon to be about 18″ long. I then cut a 2” slit every 2 cm along or so, making sure to leave the top intact. Finally, I rolled it up, placed a string in the middle and used hot glue gun to secure it.
Since I wanted it to be attached to the zipper, I threaded the other side of the string through the hole then created another tassel for the other side of the string and used the hot glue to secure that as well.
Isn’t it cute? I have a serious thing for tassels! I also have a serious thing for making sure my friends are taken care of, so win/win. It’ll be the perfect thing for her to throw in her purse!
What about you guys? What would make the cut for your date night essentials ?
