White & Bright: Guest Bath Makeover

We have a slew of projects to tackle in our new home, but one of the first ones we’ve done is our guest bath. Call it pride or call it hospitality, we want our guests to feel welcomed and not scared away by all the dark wood paneling and that weird yellow paint that’s everywhere. 😛

First up was painting the paneling and walls. We went with a bright white paint (Brilliant White by Benjamin Moore) on the cabinets, the drywall and over the wood panels. SO much better! 🙂

I have to admit, I absolutely hate the tile in the bathroom…and more than that, I really dislike the grout color…it’s like a weird orangey-brown that does NOT fit into my color scheme at all. That’ll be something to tackle way down the road though, so for now we gotta work with what we got.

Waterpik was kind enough to send me a shower head to try out, so we decided to install it in the guest bath. It’s called a Sidewinder, which made me laugh since that’s what my parents call Bella (she can’t walk straight and always walks sideways…special). It was our first time replacing an existing shower head—normally we are ripping all the plumbing up and starting from scratch. This was way easier and looks/functions a lot nicer! 🙂

Lastly, we put some “lipstick on the pig” by doing the best we can with the orangey tile and trying to hide it behind a really pretty floral curtain we picked up from Target along with a white bathmat. Much better! 🙂

  1. Looks fantastic! What a difference a coat of paint makes. And that showerhead looks pretty intense! I bet it was much easier to just swap it out rather than making huge changes to the plumbing!

  3. Well done! I love the shower curtain florals and the white makes the space seem so much bigger. Are you going to do the mirror frame too? I recently did a cottage-chippy look to a mirror frame and I love how it turned out!
