White Planked Walls

There was a time when we despaired of ever having a bathroom that wasn’t a total embarrassment. We had a jack-and-jill bathroom that housed something we unaffectionately  called “the prison shower” and we had (have) a master suite so embarrassing that we can’t ever allow guests to look inside it. For real.

Well, no longer. We are the very, very proud owners of a beautiful hall bath. It has been eight months in the making, but after changing an entire floor plan, sealing up walls, tearing apart two rooms and rearranging all the electric and plumbing, but we did it. We created a dream bathroom, complete with something I’ve been crushing on for years- white planked walls.

I talked about how we installed our wall planks in this post here. We finished them a few months ago, but took a few weeks to make sure we wanted to paint the walls. Obviously, we decided to stick with our first plan and paint them white.

I’m so glad. Our bathroom is white, bright and clean! It’s truly amazing how much difference painting the planks white made! There’s so much texture that has shown up too…which I absolutely LOVE.

If you were to come over, eat a delicious meal, then sneak off to use the potty at some point, this is the view you’d see. Not shabby right? 😛

So here is the before-before:

and then post-planking, pre-painting

A great improvement, right? 🙂 Isn’t it crazy how much difference white paint can make? I’m so happy we stuck with our first instincts and did it. But this starts the DIY domino effect- now that the planks or white we aren’t so thrilled with how…purple the purple paint is looking. And we could use some art or something somewhere in here- but these are all on the giant DIY list- so hang tight and see what happens! 🙂

  1. Wow, I can’t believe that’s the same room. I love the planked walls. I do agree that I’m not a fan of the purple, but I’m not brave when it comes to painting walls anything other than grey 😉

  2. I LOVE THE PLANK WALLS! Such a charming detail. I agree the paint reads a little purple. But, I’m a compulsive painter. LOL Your vanity is gorgeous, too!

  3. The plank walls look beautiful, it was a great idea to paint them white! I actually don’t mind the purple paint but I guess grey could look lovely too. Things will probably start to look different once you hang up some art in there as well, can’t wait to see the finished result!
