How to Make a Mother’s Day Playdough Card (The First Way!)

Your first step is going to be to print out this flower printable. This is so your child can use this flower to help create their very own Mother’s Day card. As you can see below, there are two ways you can do this card, using playdough.

You’ll want to do the writing for this card first. It’s so important that the child has time to write out what they want on the card. You do not want to rush this part, as seeing these words written in your child’s precious writing may be her favorite part! Of course, you can write whatever you like, but I went with this sweet flower poem. I’ve seen this poem a few places, but I believe it originally came from this post by Crafty Morning

Kids will have so much fun writing down what they want to say. Plus, there is even more fun happening after this step. I’d have to say this is one of those FUN last minute Mother’s Day gift ideas.

Now, instead of using coloring utensils of some sort, you’re going to use playdough. You can choose to use any type of playdough that you want for this DIY mother’s day gifts from kids. The sky is the limit on the type of playdough colors you can use for this fun craft. I think it’s fun to let kids decide the colors and let them make a 1 of a kind original piece, personally!

After it has a chance to dry a bit, frame it up! I used a simple black frame to the project really stand out, but if you have something different in mind, go for it. 🙂

When you see this craft all put together, you’re going to love it. I think it’s great to see the handwriting and the fun playdough on the flower. I think the simplicity of this craft really makes it incredible too. Any kid can sit down with a parent or grandparent and make this the best Mother’s day gift ideas DIY gift ever.

As you can see, the final product is so cute! You can frame this for mom and she will enjoy it for many years to come. Honestly, this Mother’s Day, mom isn’t looking for something expensive or overdone, she’s looking for something special that she can cherish. I think this easy DIY Mother’s day gift is just what mom needs this year.

There is a second way you can also do this craft project, which is by using page two of the free printable I have provided. This version has the same concept, but with a slightly different look and has a bit more room for coloring.

For this homemade Mother’s Day gift, you will trace the bouquet of flowers from page two of the free printable. Then, let your child use his or her imagination to “decorate” the flowers with playdough and by coloring.

TBH, if you don’t want to mess with playdough, you can totally do this with coloring also. I think the playdough helps the project stand out a bit more as it is more dimensional, but either way, it’s just adorable.

So, if you have a preschooler, this is a great Mothers day gift from preschooler children. It truly is a win-win! Mom gets an amazing keepsake and kids will get to stretch that incredible creative muscle. Kids NEED to make fun stuff like this, it helps them with their creativity. When kids get to use their imagination, they are growing, learning, and experiencing.

The final product is adorable and I just can’t get enough of it. For those of you looking for the perfect DIY Mother’s day gifts, this is it! You could also do a two in one and make both of these for mom! Let me know how it goes when you make this fun Mother’s Day craft.
