I absolutely love creating place cards for my dinner parties. They are pretty, personal and can really elevate your table. They also help you as a host select where guests sit—after all, you may be the only person who knows everyone and it’s up to you to create a comfortable atmosphere! While place cards sound fancy, they are actually really simple to make! I came up with three easy DIY place cards that will take you about a minute each to complete and really elevate your table!

My original idea was thought out months ago—I wanted to create a watercolor card to place on the gold-leaf wishbones I showed you all yesterday. These would have been so cute, but due to an unfortunate misstep of my overly excited dog, all of those had to be scrapped and I had to come up with a plan b quick.
Either way, making them is simple. Grab a sheet of watercolor paper and cut a rectangle out—I don’t recommend using regular paper since it will curl when water is added. I used watercolors (seriously obsessed with this set!) and chose colors I thought would coordinate with my table well. I added the watercolors onto the paper in a messy swipe using a water brush pen. Water brush pens are the best—they are brushes that have water in them so you can paint on the go without needing a cup of water to rinse your brush with. I use mine every single time I paint!
Once your color dries you can write the name on. If you aren’t confident with your writing, you can use stamps like I did here. Tada!
The second idea I had was sparked by some left over faux plants I had. The flowers were used in my fall decorating post on the table, but I had held unto the leaf portions just in case they came in handy—which they did! 🙂 I simply pulled the leaves off and used a white paint pen to write the name on each leaf—pretty and simple.
The third idea (and the winning one!) was to use a mini pumpkin and a black sharpie to create a holiday-appropriate pretty piece that my guests got to take home. They ended up being a hit and they were super easy to make!
So there you have it, three easy DIY place cards that you can put together in just minutes. Do you usually do place cards at your holiday table? I think I’m a rare breed for liking them so much, but I hope you give them a try! 🙂
How do you keep coming up with this cute stuff?
it shouldn’t surprise me that even your scissors are pretty 🙂
Haha thank you Rebecca! Funny story about those scissors. This is y second pair! The first, Scott accidentally threw away! :O They are Nate Berkus’ from Target! 🙂
So cute, can’t wait to try!
These are all such cute ideas!!! I just love the way watercolor looks for basically any occasion, dont you?
