DIY Sliding Barn Door
A DIY sliding barn door has been on my radar for years. Like, even before Fixer Upper dominated all the interior design everythings. When we bought our first home 7 years ago, I always dreamed of having a diy sliding barn door in our home, but then we moved. When looking at houses, I kept dreaming of where I’d put this coveted door. Then, we never got around to adding one and moved again. In our third house, I just KNEW I’d finally get my barn door.
Sigh.
You guys, fate can be cruel sometimes.
I walked around our house in circles with Scott. I just knew that there had to be somewhere the barn door of my dreams could go. I only found like 115 places! I found the perfect place…then…we moved again. Imagine my dismay when my friends at National Hardware offered to send barn door hardware.
I know.
So, in the midst of this crazy transitional time in our lives, I noticed a friend of mine, Shelby, doing a fantastic renovation on her house and suggested the use of a barn door. She was immediately in.
You guys, I’m a really good friend. I handed National Hardware’s beautiful barndoor hardware to her and felt a piece of my heart break. Wah!
On the bright side, I got to go visit her house. She lives in the cutest little city that’s an hour outside of Dallas. I loved it out there so much that I’m going to write an entire blog post on it soon! When I saw her beautiful barn door attached to the gorgeous National Hardware sliding door hardware, I knew they were meant to be together.
Shelby’s husband built the barn door himself with wood that came pre-distressed at a chain home improvement store. Isn’t it beautiful?
The really cool thing is, Shelby grew up in this house! This bedroom used to be her parents, and one of her sons now sleeps in the room that was hers as a little girl. Isn’t that cool?
The door leads from the master bedroom into the master bathroom. The bathroom is a work in progress so I promised not to show it, but I know it will be just gorgeous when they are done! Also up on her list? Replacing the green carpet in her room…although we did joke about some fun faux-grass themed decor she could do to accentuate it. 🙂
I was so impressed with the hardware. Not only was the oil-rubbed bronze finish beautiful, but the door slid along the track so easily. We all took turns opening and closing the door just to feel it gliding. I also love the bar pull!
I know I’ll get a barn door of my own one day, but until then I can just stare longingly at these photos. Or just drive to Shelby’s house. 🙂 At least I already have my hardware picked out! 🙂
The sliding door hardware was provided by National Hardware. I only work with companies I love and trust. All opinions are 100% my own. Thank you for supporting companies that allow me to spread the DIY love!
PS- if National Hardware seems familiar to you all, it’s because I made the most fabulous giant tray with them a few months ago and also used their pulls to upgrade our linen closet…check it out!
