What’s in the Box
First things first, the packaging was surprisingly compact and well-organized — everything was protected without tons of unnecessary cardboard or plastic, which I always appreciate.

Pretty straightforward overall. My first impression was honestly how sturdy the robot felt — especially the wheels.
They look and feel almost like tiny tank treads with grip for days. You can tell they’re built to climb transitions and handle uneven floors without slipping.

Setup and Mapping
From unboxing to hitting “Start,” setup took about an hour — mostly because the vacuum needed time to charge.
While it juiced up on the dock, I downloaded the Roborock app and followed the prompts to add the device.
It prompted me to scan the QR code on top of the vacuum, but mine didn’t scan. No big deal — I just added it manually by picking the Q7 L5 from the model list and holding down the Power and Home buttons to enter pairing mode.
It uses both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, so connecting was quick. After a fast firmware update, it was time for the initial mapping.
This part was shockingly fast and oddly entertaining. The Q7 L5 uses LiDAR, which is basically a tiny spinning laser that scans your home and builds a precise floor map.
The Roborock App
I’m just going to say it: I love the Roborock app.
It’s clean, intuitive, and honestly way more user-friendly than other robot vacuum apps I’ve tried.
Once your Q7 L5 finishes the initial mapping, you can:
- Label each room (bedrooms, bathrooms, office, etc.)
- Divide open-concept spaces (I split my kitchen/living/dining manually)
- Merge areas if needed
- Create custom cleaning zones
- Block off areas with No-Go Lines
- Set up schedules
- Adjust suction + water flow levels
But my favorite feature by far is the Tap-to-Clean option.
If the kids drop crumbs or someone spills a snack (…it’s always someone), you just tap that exact spot on the map and the robot heads straight there.
Then, when it’s done, it automatically goes back to whatever it was doing before. Genius!
Other app features you’ll actually use:
- Auto Boost on Carpets – extra suction the moment it detects a rug
- Deep Cleaning Mode – tighter, slower mopping passes for those extra icky stains
- Room-By-Room Cleaning – amazing for daily resets
- Floor Direction Cleaning (optional) – aligns mop strokes with your wood/tile grain
- Multiple map storage – great for multi-level homes
- Fast map editing – easily tweak walls and room shapes
You can be very organized and set up a detailed cleaning routine…or you can be like me and randomly remember, “Oh, I want to come home to clean floors,” and start it from your phone while running errands. Both approaches work just fine. 😉
Vacuuming Performance
Keeping floors clean in a busy home is basically a full-time job—especially when you’ve got long hair, kids dropping crumbs everywhere, and who knows what else all over the floor.
I wanted to give a very candid real world example of how the Roborock Q7 L5 did with the everyday messes that actually happen in real life.
So, don’t judge my messy kitchen, okay? 😉 Here’s how it all went down.
8,000 Pa HyperForce Suction
I’ll be honest — suction numbers never mean much to me until I see them in real life. “8,000 Pa” sounds like something from a physics textbook, but here’s what it boils down to: this thing is strong.
On my hard floors, it had no trouble grabbing everyday messes like coffee grounds, crumbs, a few stray dog kibble bits, and even one of those tiny plastic T-shaped price-tag fasteners (you know the kind — the ones that somehow end up everywhere).
Thanks to the LiDAR map it created, the Q7 L5 cleans in straight, orderly lines instead of swirling around in random patterns. Watching it move around my kitchen felt more like a thoughtful plan and less like a toddler learning to dance — and you can actually see how that contributes to a more efficient clean.
Because it always knows its position, the Q7 L5 cleans in straight, tidy lines instead of zigzagging randomly. It glides confidently around chair legs, under tables, and along edges without bumping into everything or wasting time recovering.
Dual Anti-Tangle System (Main Brush + Side Brush)
Hair is just part of life in our house. My husband and son both have thick short hair, our doodle occasionally leaves a few soft strands behind, and then there’s me and my daughter… with very long, thick hair that ends up everywhere. 😅
The Q7 L5 handled the shorter stuff beautifully — the pet strands and the short human hair disappeared with zero tangles. The side brush stayed completely clear, which surprised me because that’s usually the first thing to snarl up on other robot vacuums I’ve owned.
Long hair is a different story, and I want to be transparent: while most of the stands made it directly into the dust bin, some strands did still wrap around the main brush. The good news is that the built-in comb system keeps the hair from knotting tightly, so it’s MUCH easier to remove than other vacuums I’ve used in the past.
Real-World Mess Tests
For my test run, I used the usual suspects: coffee grounds, crumbs, and a generous sprinkle of long hair.
Oh, and I also got crazy and dumped some glitter on my craft room floor. You know…for science. ✨😅
The Q7 L5 picked up about 95% of everything on the first pass (yes, even the glitter!!!!) and grabbed the rest on the second — which I thought was really good.
The only thing it missed on the first pass was that plastic T price fastener—everything else was swept right up!
The side brush did a great job pulling debris away from edges and into the suction path. Corners are usually where other robot vacuums tap out, but this one managed to grab pretty much everything without me having to chase after it with a handheld.
One unexpected perk? It fits under the cabinets where my toe-kicks are.
My previous robot vacuum was just a hair too tall, so it would skip that whole area — which meant I had tiny dust bunnies mocking me every time I walked into the kitchen.

And spoiler: I definitely put it to the test. Here’s how it went!
Consistent Water-Flow Mopping
The mopping feature on the Q7 L5 was genuinely impressive. There are three water-flow options, and after some trial and error, medium seemed perfect for our floors. It left no streaks—just a light, even sheen that showed exactly where the mop had been without making anything overly wet.
The water output stayed super consistent the whole time, and it did a great job grabbing everyday surface dirt from around the kitchen. If you’ve ever used a robot mop that left random dry patches or drippy puddles, this is definitely an improvement!
Setup is simple: attach the mop pad, fill the water tank, and go. The mop pad removes easily and rinses clean by hand afterward.
Quick note – there’s no auto-lifting over carpet on this model, so I only use the mop on hard floors. You can set all that info up in the map on the app!
Deep Cleaning Routine
In the Roborock app, the Q7 L5 gives you two mop cleaning routines: Balanced and Deep. The Deep routine slows the robot slightly and creates tighter, more deliberate mop paths, which is great in high-traffic spaces like the kitchen or dining room.

Okay, now for the practical. Here’s what you actually need to do to use your vacuum daily.
- Make sure the vacuum is charged on the dock.
- Attach the mop module and pad (pre-moisten it first if you’re mopping)
- Choose your cleaning mode (Vac & Mop or Vacuum Only).
- Pick your suction level (choose from: quiet, balanced, turbo, max, and max+).
- Choos your water level (I usually use Medium).
- Tap Start or use the app to select a room/zone (so cool!).
- Let it run — it cleans in neat lines thanks to LiDAR.
- Empty the dust bin after a couple of runs.
- Rinse the mop pad and refill the water tank when needed.
- Check the main brush occasionally for long hair.
- Let the app remind you when it’s time to clean the filter.
Brutally Honest Real-Life Experience
I always say the real test of a robot vacuum isn’t what it does in a perfect, clutter-free demo house — it’s how it handles actual life. Crumbs, hair, dog fluff, mystery messes, piles of glitter… you know, the usual.
And honestly? The Roborock Q7 L5 fit into our routine very well.
I loved how confidently it moved around the house. It didn’t bump into things constantly or get confused in open spaces. And the fact that it cleans in straight, orderly lines makes such a difference — the floors just look cleaner afterward because it’s thorough and doesn’t miss patches.

The suction power is fantastic, the mopping options are actually useful, and the ability to customize both vacuum and mop levels makes it super flexible for everyday life.
The app is honestly one of my favorite parts — it’s clean, intuitive, and makes the robot feel so much easier to use. The straight-line cleaning pattern is extremely satisfying to watch (in a way only adults who love clean floors can appreciate), and the whole system just feels smart.
I also appreciate the dock’s small footprint, which makes it easier to tuck away in a corner without creating clutter.
And, my kids are fascinated with watching the bot zoom around, so free entertainment is always nice (screen free!).
Of course, I do have a couple of small wish-list items. I would love a robot vacuum that never gets long-hair tangles ever (which the Roborock Qrevo Curv actually achieves — review coming soon!).
And while I don’t have the auto-empty version of the Q7, I do see the appeal. The Q7 M5+ model lets the vacuum empty itself after each run, which sounds dreamy, but it does come at a higher price.
Personally, I think it’s totally fine to make emptying the dust bin part of your daily or every-other-day routine if you want to save some money.
If you’re looking for accessories, I’d recommend grabbing a spare mop pad and the Roborock cleaning solution (the only one approved for use with their mopping system!).
But truly, everything you need comes right in the box — it’s basically plug-and-play.
All in all, Roborock has won me over as a brand. Between the tech, the app, and how well this vacuum fits into our everyday chaos, I’m officially a fan.
