It’s no secret that I love to entertain. As any good hostess would, I stock up on party supplies quite frequently, with one of my favorite items to purchase being wine charms. If you aren’t sure what a wine charm is, it’s basically a wire ring that slips around the stem of a wine glass to help identify whose glass is whose (because, let’s be honest after a glass or two of wine, you might not remember exactly where you left you glass!). The last few times I’ve used wine charms, I’ve thought, “hey, I could make these!” so I did. I promise you guys can make them too, check it out!
First of all is the fun part. Shop for supplies! You can find these in your local craft store, but I’ll link to a few online sources as well. For this project you will need copper wire (found in the jewelry-making section), jewelry charms (I like this one and this one), round metal blanks (make sure you get the kind with a hole punched in it!), a jewelry stamping kit, a metal stamping block and a jewelry hammer. You’l also need a pair of wire cutters if you don’t have them already.
Start by using your stamping kit to stamp your guests’ names on the metal blanks. Of course you could skip this step, but it’s so easy and so fun—and adds the perfect personal touch! If you haven’t jewelry stamped before, you’ll be amazed at how simple it is. Simply place your blank down on the stamping block and use your hammer to make an impression with the jewelry stamps. I recommend using tape to hold your blank down until you get the hang of it—it helps keep your line straight. 🙂
Next you can shape your wire. The wire will wrap around the stem of the wine glass. I didn’t want to use the delicate stem to make the wire shape with, so I used my finger instead! I cut off a piece of wire and carefully wound it around my finger. I then trimmed off the ends to make a complete circle.
Now it’s accessorizing time! Thread your metal wire through stamped metal blank and add the jewelry charms to jazz it up!
Aren’t they so cute? Serve them up with some cheese and nuts and you have the perfect party snack!
Toast yourself to your fabulous wine-y style! 🙂 Cheers friends!
