Oink, cluck, moo…I can’t believe my little guy is TWO! 🥲

The Magic of the xTool M1 Ultra

So, first, let’s talk about the xTool M1 Ultra. I wrote a thorough M1 Ultra review that you can look at – but I’ll just say that this versatile tool is a game-changer for moms (or anyone!) who love DIY projects!

It’s super user-friendly and absolutely perfect for crafting personalized party items, from decorations to party favors—which is exactly what I did!

Its precision and versatility make it a must-have for anyone looking to add a personal touch to their celebrations. Plus, it’s just so much fun to use!

The best part? You don’t need to be a crafting expert to get started. The Xtool M1 Ultra is super easy to use for beginners and seasoned crafters alike.

It truly was my personal party planning MVP. And no, this post is NOT sponsored—I just love my machine that much!

Farm Birthday Party DIYs

Choosing a farm-themed party was a no-brainer for us. Our little boy loves animals, especially singing “Old MacDonald Had a Farm” on REPEAT. We wanted to bring his favorite song to life, complete with all the fun farm animals he adores.

Rather than calling it a “farm birthday party,” we leaned into a cute sub theme: oink, cluck, moo…Theodore is two! Choosing a party theme is always one of my favorite parts of party planning and gives us a cohesive event.

And because I truly love DIY, and it’s one of the ways I choose to show love to my kids (and maybe because I’m crazy), I opted to make pretty much everything at the party rather than buy it. 🤣

Here’s what I crafted:

Food Labels

Each food item had its own adorable label with classic red and white print, of course. These not only added to the theme but also made it easy for guests to know what they were enjoying.

Plus, it allowed me to be a bit cheeky with my food item names, which is always fun!

I used the M1 Ultra’s inkjet module to print the red and white border around the label, then used the pen module to “write” the name of each food. People assumed I had really great handwriting (which, sadly, I don’t!).

Drink Labels

I purchased inexpensive jugs to pour different juices into and used the M1 Ultra’s blade-cutting function to make vinyl labels for each juice.

High Chair Banner

For Teddy’s seat of honor, I crafted a high chair banner that said TWO, alongside some cute farm icons. It was the perfect backdrop for those all-important cake photos.

I printed this one out on my regular printer and cut it out by hand with scissors since my M1 Ultra was busy making my party favors (see more on that below)!

I ended up using a Hawaiian skirt and some red crepe paper from a roll to add some texture behind the banner – it worked surprisingly well! Both the banner and skirt were secured to the high chair with mini command hooks.

Cupcake Toppers

These cupcake toppers might be my favorite thing I made. It’s hard to choose but I got soooo many compliments on these and every time i looked at them I smiled!

I whipped up the design in Canva, then printed them out on sheets of plywood using the M1 Ultra inkjet module. Next, I cut them out with the laser module.

To make sure they were totally food-safe, I sprayed each with food-safe Schellac.

Cup Stickers

I purchased plastic cups with lids and straws, but I wanted to jazz them up, of course!

I used the M1 Ultra to prink on inkjet sticker paper to make a very on-theme set of stickers that said “Oink, cluck, moo…Theodore is two!”

This was a little detail, but it’s one of the ones I loved the most! ๐Ÿ™‚

Farm Party Shirt

Of course, I also had to make a special shirt for the birthday boy! I used ink-jet friendly heat transfer paper to print a design I purchased from Etsy (you can find the moo I’m two svg here!).

Then, I used my xTool Heat Press to press it onto a sublimation-friendly toddler shirt. Easy peasy!

Farm Birthday Party Food

Of course, no party is a true party without plenty of food! Here’s a glimpse of our farm-themed menu:

Pigs in a blanket: Classic pigs in blankets, served with ketchup or dipping.

Donuts: Simple but always a good idea. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Mini quiche: We used this recipe for bacon, potato, and egg quiche but made some modifications. We opted to remove the spinach to make it more kid-friendly and also made them bite-sized with a mini muffin pan. They turned out delicious!

Farm-fresh fruit: Since it’s the summer, we stocked up on plenty of fresh berries and served them in these adorable compostable berry containers.

Cupcakes: With the DIY farmer Teddy cupcake toppers, of course!

Chicken and waffles: A fun twist on traditional chicken and waffles, we used waffles and chicken nuggets on skewers for a kid-friendly finger food.

Corn on the cob: This was one of my favorite DIYs! We took puffed cheese balls and goldfish and put them in snack-sized zip-top bags. Then we wrapped each baggie in green tissue paper and tied the ends with raffia for a super cute take on “corn.”

These were a total hit!

Watering hole: A cute little station for juice and mimosas! These juice jugs were labeled with vinyl that I cut on the M1 Ultra. We also had bottles of water and juice boxes in a cooler, as well as a carafe of coffee.

Milk bar: For a fun twist, we set up a milk bar with different flavors of syrup for the kids (and adults!) to create their own concoctions in clear cups with straws.

I think the grown-ups may have enjoyed it more than the kiddos! ๐Ÿ™‚

Farm Birthday Cake

This cake, y’all. Oh my goshhhh.

I decided to go with a homemade cake rather than a store-bought one—I had a vision for the cake, but I am admittedly not the best cake decorator. 😅

oink cluck moo themed cake

Sooo…I have to give a special shout-out to my friend, Vee, who made and decorated this cake in my kitchen at 2 am with me. She’s an incredible baker and cook—check out her allergen-friendly Disney blog here!

We made two separate batters—a chocolate and vanilla, and both were absolutely from box mixes. No shame here! ๐Ÿ˜‰

She swirled them together by doing a layer of white cake, then chocolate, and using a butter knife to create patterns. The idea was for it to look kind of like cow print!

But the real magic was the outside of the cake—isn’t it incredible?

barn and animals on a chocolate cake

I ordered this set of farm animals, and it came with a fence, which happened to fit the perimeter of the cake!

Vee used food dye to create “grass” and “water” as well as chocolate icing for “mud.” I used a wooden barn I made with the M1 Ultra to add an extra touch of personalization.

And, as you’ll notice, I decided the farm animals needed a bit more festivity, so I whipped up some mini party hats, complete with a fun pom pom! (You can buy similar ones too!)

Seriously, this cake was such a work of art, with so much love poured in! And it tasted great, too. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Party Favors

Each child who came got a set of small wooden farm animals to color, along with a set of markers. Of course, I had to include a barn that said Teddy’s Farm, too! Totally on brand for a farm birthday party, right? ๐Ÿ˜‰

This activity was a blast during the party and a lovely souvenir for later.

I opted to do a set with markers rather than paint, which is my normal go-to, to make it easier for littles to join in the fun with less mess. I got the markers from the dollar store, but you can grab a set of party markers online, too!

For the final touch, I wrapped each set in a cellophane bag with a tie.

Lessons Learned and Quick Tips for Other Moms

Reflecting back on the birthday, here are my tips for other moms considering a DIY approach:

  • Start early: Give yourself plenty of time to plan and create. Starting early reduces stress and allows you to enjoy the crafting process.
  • Bring in the extra help: I am lucky enough to have a few close friends who offered up their time and talent—and I took them up on it! I could not have done this alone…it truly takes a village. (Thank you, Steps + Vee!)
  • Use tools like xTool M1 Ultra cutter: Investing in versatile tools like the xTool M1 Ultra can save time and effort while opening up a world of creative possibilities. Don’t have the funds for a laser cutter? No worries! Get creative with what you have—you can go a long way with scissors and construction paper.
  • Personal Touches Matter: Whether it’s personalized food labels or custom party favors, small details go a long way in making a party feel special.
  • Ask a few responsible attendees to take photos and video for you: Rather than worrying about snapping pics, enjoy the moment and ask others to photograph some things for you! I flagged down two friends in particular and asked one to video us singing happy birthday while the other snapped shots with an iphone. They were happy to do it, and I’ll treasure those memories forever!
  • Don’t Stress Over Perfection: Remember, the goal is to create a joyful experience for your child. It doesn’t have to be perfect to be memorable. The most important thing is to be present and enjoy your little one!

Wrapping Up the Farmyard Fun

Teddy’s farm-themed 2nd birthday was such a blast—and he genuinely had the best time, which made all the effort worth it!

If you are considering taking on a few DIYs for a party of your own, I highly encourage it! ๐Ÿ™‚

And remember, at the end of the day, you don’t need a fancy party for your little one to be loved. If you opt to keep it super simple and small, that’s perfect, too. Either way, enjoy those toddler snuggles!
