10 Road Trip Essentials

what should I take on a road trip

I LOVE road trips. If you haven’t seen via instagram and Facebook  I’ve been having a blast at the Haven Conference in Atlanta! When I got my ticket I was almost as excited about the 12 hour drive with Scott as I was about the conference. We are road trip pros who have made the drive from Dallas to the Southeast numerous times. Here are my essentials for every road trip!

Tote bag- to wrangle all your stuff and make it easier to find.

iPhone– for many reasons but mainly documenting photos when I don’t want to grab my DSLR, using the map app, using Yelp when we are trying to decide where to eat and for playing road trip playlists that I create in spotify.

Fitbit– I know it’s an odd thing to wear on a road trip, but my goal to take 10,000 steps a day doesn’t die out just because I’m stuck in a car. It’s a good reminder to take breaks and walk around a bit.

Scarf– sometimes I’m cold and Scott is hot in the car and vice-versa. A scarf is a quick and cute way to bundle up.

Deep Relief oil– I use this for everything, but it’s amazing for headaches and nausea, and since I happen to get car sick pretty easy, this is a must-have for me (you can read about my experience with Young Living Oils here)

Disinfectant wipes– you all are going to laugh at me, but I use these to wipe the bottom of my shoes every single time I use a gas station bathroom. You know why. 😛

Notebook– to jot down all the dreams and ideas we have while driving.

Sunglasses– protect those peepers!

Snacks– noms for the road!

Cooler + drinks– it’s always nice to be able to grab a cold water or soda. Also we store baby carrots in the cooler to snack on. (I just bought this cooler from World Market on clearance!)

So those are my 10 road trip essentials. What about you guys? Do you prefer driving or flying? Do you think about the gas station bathroom floors? I can’t help it. :O

  1. Love this list! The wipes…oh my goodness! I have to say, I’ve never thought of doing that. It makes total sense though! And I always bring a notebook too.

  2. Some juicy gossip magazines are a must pack item!
Ive got a road trip planned with girlfriends in September and we are flying because its quicker, but I dont mind driving if its fairly close to home 🙂

  3. Great tips! Glad to know that I’m not the only one that thinks a notebook is absolutely essential on road trips. I even take one on solo road trips, although I do wait until pitstops to write if I’m solo! Since I usually have a pup with me, I also have to have towels, water bowls, a spare leash and doggie biscuits.
