Dwell with Dignity + Neighbors’ Table Dinner Party

Sunday night I had an incredible opportunity to be a part of something absolutely magical. Don’t believe in magic you say? Well let me prove you wrong.

Imagine this: someone falls on hard times. Life happens. Hardship happens. Suddenly they’re alienated, alone, completely forgotten by the world. Until, one day they’re not anymore. They find a new family. Find hope. Find meaning. Isn’t that magical?

That’s what I saw Sunday night. I was able to volunteer and photograph a dinner party put together by Neighbors’ Table and Dwell with Dignity. I talked about my experience with Neighbors’ Table before here, but Dwell with Dignity was something fairly new to me.

Their mission is: to help families escape poverty and homelessness through design; one household at a time. Basically they remember the people that the world has often forgotten. They love deep and they love well. And they prove that when you combine willing hearts, helping hands and good design…good things happen.

This dinner was a celebration—just an opportunity to rejoice with one another and spend time together. My talented friend Kris did all of the styling including the florals, calligraphy, etc. Isn’t she amazing? So blessed to call this talented lady my friend. Plus, she showed us how to make incredible floral arrangements of our own in this post here.

Dinner was amazing. Not only was the food fantastic (you all must try Bubba’s if you haven’t before locals!) but the conversation was so much fun.

People at the table were from different backgrounds, races, ethnicities, lifestyles, etc. but we are all there as one big family that night. There is so much that unifies us as a people: love for children. Desire to improve oneself. Passion for good food. There were so many more unifiers than dividers at that table.

Also—I totally fell head over heels in love with every single child there. They were exuberant and joyful! When they weren’t running around the space, they were drawing with chalk and telling us their dreams. I love the contagious energy, it makes me excited!

So, my friends, this really was magic. People on the outside who seemingly had nothing in common came to dinner, had a wonderful evening and found way more in common than they did apart.   It doesn’t get much better than that. 🙂
