Before and After – Our Bath Remodel with Brushed Gold Fixtures

Hooray…three cheers for Pfister – they are sponsoring this post and helped me remodel our tub shower combo as part of our bath remodel.  As always, all opinions are my own.

Remember the before photos from our hall bath? Lovely, right? 🙂 When we moved in, I was 7 months pregnant and the number one thing on my house wishlist was a bathtub.

So, I pulled the pregnant wife card and told Scott I was only moving there if I got a massive, beautiful soaking tub.

I called it my push present. ?

Sadly, the tub was TINY and kind of gross. See? Obviously, the original tub was not the soaking tub of my dreams. ?

After sketching out several ideas, the only logical solution was to make the tub longer and increase the size of our bathroom by about 18″, especially once I got a killer deal on a tub and it hung out in our kitchen for a few weeks. ?

How can I make my bathroom bigger?

Thankfully, enlarging an existing shower is not as hard as you would think—just take space from an adjoining room. We used an old trick of ours from another major bathroom remodel—we cut into the next room where the tub backed up.

Most bathrooms will backup to another bathroom and/or a room or closet. The best way to make your bathroom bigger is to literally make your bathroom bigger!

At our last home, we used an entire bedroom closet to expand the bathroom and installed an Ikea closet on a different wall to make up for it.

In this case, we needed about 1-2 feet more behind where the shower head sits. Luckily for us, right behind the shower was a generous hall closet. It worked out really well since we were already planning on replacing the cracked, stained tile. Here’s the hall closet (post remodel) as we finished up the shower installation.

I picked my new tub and happily handed off the installation to a handyman & crew—I totally deserved it given I was almost 8 months pregnant! 🙂 I was so ready to soak my swollen feet into that tub shower combo!

Once the new tub was in, we had white subway tile installed (because it’s classic, pretty and cheap) and, like the rest of our house, put water resistant engineered floors in. Things were getting good!

Brushed Gold Shower Fixtures

Then…a dream came true. Pfister reached out to me and offered me a chance to try out their bathroom fixtures—how did they know I was right in the middle of a bath remodel?!

I had my pick from any of their gorgeous bathroom collections – it was a tough choice.

But…my eye was drawn to one collection in particular—and when I saw it came in gold, I was SOLD. The Contempra Collection from Pfister is GORGEOUS. It made our bathroom above and beyond what we wanted! See? ?

We installed the Contempra 1-Handle Tub and Shower Trim in Brushed Gold. If you are changing from a different brand, you’ll also need the Pfister Rough Valve for it to connect to.

Here’s a close up of the gorgeous Pfister fixtures! ?Isn’t the gold shower head amazing?

I still pinch myself when I walk in the bathroom! It looks so different after the bath remodel – it’s so gorgeous and clean and the best place in the world to take long baths and showers.

In case you are wondering, the plant is a ZZ plant and it’s the best plant ever. It’s harder to kill than a cactus. Honestly. I keep forgetting to water it or take care of it in any way, and it’s growing new leaves! See? I’m going to get a dozen more. ?

One more tip—if you want a super simple bathroom organizing idea, take all your shampoo bottles and conditioner, and pour them into these amber pump bottles. Even if you have a million baby toys floating around your new shower remodel, keep your eyes up and on the pump bottles. Bonus points if you are a nerd like me and label them. ?

It’s not always possible to have a separate tub and shower—so if you have a combo situation there’s no reason you can’t make it just as luxurious! 🙂

I would have never said it a few months ago, but the hall bath is my favorite room in the house. It is such a peaceful, beautiful space…even though we are not quite done.

Next steps for our bathroom remodel are to do something with our vanity, change up the lighting and get to accessorizing! YAY.

Thanks again to my friends at Pfister for partnering with me to make my bathtub dreams come true! 🙂 Check out the Contempra Fixtures from Pfister—thanks for supporting businesses that help me keep the remodeling projects coming! ?

  1. What is the measurements of the tub. The height most importantly. Also what brand?

  2. Hi Tania. I really like the look of the floorboards. Did you use tiles that look like wood? ‘d worry about water damage otherwise, especially with a kid on the way.

I looked up the ZZ plant cause I thought it would be great for my house, It turns out they are somewhat toxic, and my cats like to nibble on every plant they can, though.

  3. Wow, your new bathtub gives a more spacious look to your bathroom. My bathtub makes my bathroom look small and boring. Thank you for sharing your experience. I’ll contact a professional so I can get a new bathtub installed.
