Our Kitchen Needed Jewelry

Cabinet Pulls 11

I am so excited to be writing this post! We have gotten so much finishing touches done on our kitchen.  So, you know how you have an outfit, and it’s okay but once you add some awesome accessories the entire thing just pops and you feel like a total B.A? That’s how I’d like to imagine our kitchen feels.

You know, this is really a Cinderella story.  In case you have forgotten, we took this gal from this to this which was a great improvement. No more green, walled-in, panneled kitchen.  But then once we changed her outfit and upgraded her cabinets, and built concrete countertops, we kind of forgot about her.  We had other makeovers to give.

Well, no more.  Now this pretty lady got her bling on with some awesome cabinet pulls that I am head over heals in love with! First, let’s take a look at the “old new kitchen”.  Nothing wrong here….functional, decent…boring.

Enter these guys stage left.  I knew that I wanted to do an aged brass cabinet pull.  Since we have so much cool colors- blue, white and gray- I thought bringing a warm tone in could really bring some depth in. Can I just say, I was totally right? 🙂 Finding the right pulls, however, was another story.

I wanted something unique and genuinely vintage, not just something I could purchase in Home Depot.  So we spent a good six months (seriously) looking for pulls at various places.  We were at the Dallas Architectural Salvage and I found these babies in their cabinet pull room.  (Yes, they have a whole room!!). Check out how lovely these are!  These were salvaged from an old building.  Who knows where! I’d like to imagine it is from the Dallas library, or the Old Red (where we got married!) or a mansion of some kind. Somewhere glamorous and full of history I am sure. 🙂

So this is where we started when my Mr. Wonderful measured the holes carefully….Cabinet Pulls 8

and drilled through the backside of each cabinet.  It’s really important to drill through the back, because the exit hole is the cleanest.  So you want your front to look the best. 🙂Cabinet Pulls 10

and that’s it, times like 25 cabinets! Now they look like this!

On our island, we were missing a false drawer (now since installed!) and was just a mound of white.  We used a combination of the various pulls to give it a more custom look.

Looks like furniture, right? Hooray!

So that, my friends, is how we spent 5 hours and $100 upgrading our kitchen.  Beauty, beauty. So worth it.  That’s not the end of the kitchen make over- if this is jewelry, then wait to you see the makeup! Or something. 🙂

    1. Yes Brynne! You must! It’s hit or miss for me- a lot of the stuff is really pricey, but there are some really cool gems. We got our fireplace mantle there- it was a rustic wood beam they had out in the back. We also got 2 vintage light fixtures for our hall bath there that will be installed soon! 🙂 It’s a fun place to check out!
