Vacation at Iberostar Paraíso del Mar

I finally have had the time to sit down and pull together photos from our amazing trip to Mexico last month!! My parents were INCREDIBLY generous and took me, Scott, and my sister Tahlla with them to Riviera Maya for an amazing vacation.  Some of these photos are from my iPhone, and some from my DSLR- I really had so much fun and can’t wait for another family trip to happen soon hopefully!  We stayed at the Iberostar Paraíso del Mar which was really lovely- we had beautiful rooms, delicious food and spent lots of time split between the ocean and the pool drinking tequila and eating ice cream.  Sigh. Wish we could go back already!  Get ready for a MILLION photos!!! 🙂

We started our journey at 4:45 am and headed to the airport.  Who cares if you are sleep deprived…you’re going to MEXICO!! YAY.

The hotel grounds were really cool- it had the biggest pool I have ever seen in my life, complete with a couple of swim up bars, which is genius.  Why should you bother to get out of the pool to get your drink on?  The hotel was ocean front and even though our room didn’t have an ocean view we were literally only a minute walk away from the beach.  There were also lots of fun animals at Iberostar- kittens, flamingos, swans and coatis.  Of course the hotel had some really cool architecture and some delicious restaurants and food.

There was even a familiar sight…a swinging outdoor bed!!! So basically Mexico is in my backyard…just need the ocean!? 🙂

And here is the amazing pool…

And now the real star of the show…the ocean.  I love and miss you, Ocean!!!

We left the resort twice- once was to go to Fifth Avenue for shopping.  I loved all the colorful accessories and items that merchants were selling.  One of my favorite things about Mexican design is the bold, unapologetic use of saturated color! No beige here! Plus the light fixtures are all AMAZING.

See what I mean about those lighting fixtures? Love.

The other place we went was Xplor which was AMAZING.  They have zipline courses, natural caverns, a jungle and all kinds of fun activities.  We did both zipline courses and I had so much fun!!! It was my first time zip lining, and I definitely want to do it again.  We also did a cave swim where you can swim through the natural cavern water…omigosh it was so cool! We swam in the most clear, cool water I have ever seen, with schools of fish and blue lights.  It was truly beautiful.

Then after a week of adventure, it was back home we went.  Sad 🙁  These two were worn out! 😛

Let’s take one more look at the ocean. Sigh.

Now looking through these photos have kicked in my wanderlust…where are we traveling to next?? I am still dying to go back to Paris. Thank you SO MUCH mom and dad for this wonderful, relaxing week in Mexico! I had so much fun spending time with my family- they are wonderful. 🙂
