Easy Felt Ball Garland

I’m always looking for easy and cute ways to add some color and whimsy into our home. Lately, I’ve been loving the playful garland look that I’ve seen floating around the internet and really wanted to make my own fun version.

There are a ton of great and simple ways to make garlands, which I’ll save for a  fun future post—fabric, paper, floral, etc. You can hang them horizontally or hang a bunch vertically and get a super cute photography backdrop (obsessed with this one here!). When I decided to try my hand at my own, I knew instantly what I wanted to make—a felted ball garland!

I first saw a felted ball garland when I was in downtown Philly at the Mothership—aka the coolest Anthropologie I’ve ever laid eyes on. It was massive you guys! The clearance room alone was the size of our entire Anthro in Dallas! It was around the holidays so there was a plethora of fun, happy décor…including a felted ball garland. It’s been on my mind ever since!

I ordered my felt balls online during a flash sale, but you can find them on etsy at a ton of stores. Once I got them in, they sat in my studio for about 3 months until I got my act together and decided to get to work! 🙂 Aren’t all these colors fun?

I purchased a large sewing needle and white embroidery thread and double looped the thread through the needle.

This was the easiest sewing ever. I just threaded all the balls on the string, then tied a knot at the end so they wouldn’t slip off. Viola!

It adds a bit of fun to this area, right? So what about you guys…are you garland-obsessed like me? Buy everything you need to make your own below!

  1. I think I could handle this crafty project and sewing. This is about all I can handle, but hey, a success is a success, right? 🙂 Fun!

  2. Adorable! Found you through the Live Randomly Simple linkup. 🙂 I don’t know why felt ball garlands intimidate me, but this does look easy. I’m looking for ideas for my daughter’s room, and this would be fun. How much were the balls for how long of a garland?
