A Texas-Sized Flea Market

Like I mentioned in my last post, Scott and I took a road-trip down to Round Top, Texas for the Texas Antique Weekend Show. It was our first time, and while we had heard some great things, we weren’t sure what to expect.
Oh. Em. Geeeeeeee.
First of all, it took us almost 7 hours instead of 4 to get to the b&b we were staying at. Why? Because we got hit with the CRAZIEST storm here in Dallas, and that silly storm happened to be traveling southeast…which is exactly where we were going. We pulled over twice to let the storm pass since we were on a country road and it was raining so hard we couldn’t see! Terrifying.
But, at around 1 am we crawled into bed, safe and dry, and slept a hard 6 hours or so. The inn we were at had a lovely yard and the house was so cute—I loved it so much I re-booked it for the next Round Top in spring! E-mail me if you want the name of the place…I think there are only 2 rooms left!
Now, onto the important part….SHOPPING!
Can I just say I would consider myself pretty expert level on flea-market shopping? I don’t tire easily—shopping energizes me!—I forget to eat, I bound from table to table with energy and have a vision for EVERYTHING I see. After one day at Round Top—I was exhausted.
Like everyone told me, one day was simply not enough time. I don’t think a week would be enough time. I think we saw approximately 1/100th or so of the market. It was insane.
There was something for everyone and all price ranges. I saw things for as cheap as pennies, and as expensive as $25,000. Yikes.
They also had CHAMPAGNE you guys! And beers. And you could walk around and shop and drink. I’m glad we didn’t discover that until the end or I might have been less careful with my budget! 😛
So, after 10 hours of HARD shopping until I literally thought Scott and/or I would drop…we drove back to Dallas. But let’s get to the good part…what made it home with us!
This wasn’t just a trip for pleasure. Round Top was a hybrid pleasure-business trip. I’ve mentioned it before, way back, but I am opening an online shop this year and some of these treasures will be for sale! I’ve listed with each item if is slated for sale or not. To get updates, exclusive sales and first dibs at items I’ve spent the last year collecting, sign up for my newsletter here (no spam, pinky promise!). So excited!
I bought:
1) A giant bread bowl (this one isn’t for sale, but I will be having some similar ones that will be!). This thing is huge, like 3 feet long. I have lots of ideas for it, but for right now I’m using it on our coffee table. Look at that texture! <3
2) A long roll of vintage wallpaper (for sale!). This wallpaper is GORGEOUS, full of bright, vivid color. This doesn’t fit in with the aesthetic of our house, but I love it (check out this post on 10 uses for vintage wallpaper).
3) A vintage kitchen scale (not for sale). I have been looking for one for a long time and totally fell for this rusty butter scale.
4) Vintage basket (not for sale). I’m not sure what this was originally used for (milk bottles maybe?) but bottles of wine fit perfectly inside…soooo wine it is.
5) Vintage fireplace screen (maybe for sale!). Another item I’ve had on my wish list for awhile. The details on this one are amazing and it adds fun character to our fireplace—it just might be too small for our fireplace. 🙁
7) Giant candle holder (not for sale, but I will have similar ones that are). This thing is also huge, about 4 feet long! I will use it for candles or for little bunches of flowers…or both! 🙂
8) Vintage tin (for sale!). I LOVE the colors and pattern of this tin.
9) Milk glass bowls (not for sale). Maybe bowl isn’t the right word, but I don’t know what else to call it? Giant goblet? 🙂 Either way I love how these look apart—and stacked together. I can see these filled with pretty greenery cascading down the sides.
10) Vintage bottles (some for sale). Some of these bottles are from the 1800s! How cool is that? Maybe someone famous drank out of one of these…and now they will sit on my table (and maybe yours!) filled with flowers. Lovely.
11) Vintage seltzer bottles (some for sale!). YES. I have been looking for these for a long time and was thrilled to find these. They are just gorgeous.
So that’s it! I’ll be heading back in April, so tell me—is there anything you would like to see in the shop? I love the thrill of the hunt. Counting the days until we get to go back…this time for at least 2 days! 🙂

I would have felt like I died and went to heaven at that market! Oh my gosh – gotta look into the spring one to maybe fly out….but how to get my goodies home? That’s the tough part.
That big indian headdress and the yellow/turquoise old door would have had to come home with me for sure! You picked up some great finds Tania!
Wow! I want to go! Zack would never go on an overnight trip with me for a flea market. It’s hard enough getting him to go to a garage sale 😉
Can’t wait to see your store!
That market looks AMAZING! Your finds are all gorgeous 🙂
You’ve given me a serious thrifting itch!! Can’t wait to see your new shop 🙂 🙂
Oh my goodness! I finally get to see all the goodies!
What a great post & so glad that you guys made there and back safely. What a crazy storm!
I love love love love all these pictures! Such great ‘product’ shots, even if not all of them are for sale ;). Definitely looking forward to your Etsy shop to acquire some of these goodies that you are willing to part with ;).
I think home decor items would be cool! Something for an office space? Something to go on the shelf or the on the desk? 🙂
You got a lot of fun finds girl! Can’t believe how long it took you to get there 🙁 Was that the same storm that hit Dallas? I actually don’t know if I have ever been to a flea market – crazy right? Love those bottles!
This.Looks.Amazing!
I never knew about this, and I am in Dallas too!!!
We keep talking about heading to Canton one weekend, but never have.
Do you know of any good places in Dallas to go?
Great finds! I especially liked the milk glass bowls. I know these aren’t for future sale but with regards to the other items will you have international shipping for your new online store?
The antique door looks so cool! Though the mannequin with all his insides showing is kind of terrifying… o.o
Wow, you found some great things! I actually just looked up Round Top to see how far it is from me. It may be worth the road trip 🙂
If I am not mistaking the wire baskets were used for milk bottles.
It’s not fair. You saved the best treasures for yourself 🙂 I am totally a huge fan to the huge candle holder, and the milk glass bowls and the vintage basket. Yes, it was used for milk bottles but as you found wine bottles also fit perfect. I would use it for the same thing if I had one like this. Wish you luck with your shop and probably I will be your customer because we just like the same things and I am sure you will have some very interesting objects to offer.
Wow, this flea market looks so amazing! I love all the kitschy items you saw + captured. It sounds like the flea market made the trip well worth it 🙂
Wow I’m in Dallas and I HAVE to go to around Top. Those are some amazing finds!!!
