A Secret Room Never Seen Before—the 3rd Bedroom!

So, there’s a room in our house I’ve never showed you guys.

In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever really mentioned it outside of sharing how we took the closet out to make it into a bathtub for the hall bath. You guys know we’re a huge fan of bedroom makeovers…you have seen our master bedroom makeover and our studio reveal, but did you know that we have a 3rd bedroom?

We do.

It looks like this. Eeek!

So that’s why we haven’t showed it. Actually, this isn’t even a true before picture. There was really gross carpet in here that we ripped up and put our laminate flooring in. Then we just had a room that had no drywall on one wall from the hall bath remodel, with nice floors and piles (PILES) of boxes and clothes inside. Literally, an entire junk room.

Then, we got the news my little sister was moving in with us for awhile. Which is super cool for many reasons, one of which being it would force us to get that room cleared out and looking like a proper guest room.

First, we had to get the drywall issue fixed. We could’ve done it ourselves, but drywall is just not our thing and we have an excellent contractor that did a great job at a reasonable price.

And then, I even paid him to paint the room for me. Because, you guys, I’m TIRED. I was just tired of painting and needed a little luxurious break from remodeling so I could focus my energy on clearing out boxes and maybe (just maybe) find a few hours to read a book and relax.

I won’t lie to you, it was wonderful having someone else paint. So now the room looks like this:

We used Behr’s Sparrow on the walls and Cumulus Cloud (from Martha Stewart, apparently now discontinued, booo!!) on the ceiling. I have wanted to paint a bedroom a dark color for a while, so this was my experiment. I love it so far.

We’ve got a lot of work left to do on this one. We need curtains, lighting, décor, shelving, a headboard, bedding, side table, dresser….etc. A LOT of stuff. But I am planning on knocking this project out pretty quickly…and it’s fun that it’s all décor and not a lot of remodeling. Yay! Today is my sister’s birthday—I was hoping to have it ready in time, but since I just got back from a lovely 4 day holiday at the wine country of Texas, I’m not too hard on myself. 🙂

And just because I feel bad for your eyes having to look at these non-pretty pictures, here’s a few inspiration photos of the vibe I’m channeling.

  1. I don’t blame you for not wanting to paint ~ especially when you can be in our wine country! The only problem?? You didn’t take me! 🙂

Seriously, the photos of the bedrooms you are channeling are stunning! Can’t wait to see what you do.

  2. I’ll take a combo of the second and third picture! If you could come assist me, that would be amazing 🙂 PS I am a terrible painter…. I am not sure how.. but just terrible.

  3. What a change you made the dark brown flooring and the gray walls, you will get to be dramatic or romantic with the decor. I don’t care for a Regency headboard in a small room, but I love the creative headboard in the third photo. You may need a longer break from crafting, but I’ll bet you could come up with a unique and stunning headboard and footboard. I love found pieces being recycles, and I love lightweight puffy spreads, comforters or duvets, and I love decorations that don’t look like they came out of a box at the home interior stores. And now you have your sister’s help!

  4. Your sister is one lucky girl! Judging by your inspiration pics (and knowing your renovation talents) her room will be fit for a queen!!!

ps. I agree with everyone else, that wall color is gorgeous!
